"Mexico will surpass historical heat records in the coming days
• UNAM scientists consider that it is an unprecedented condition and suggest that society reduce exposure to the sun, wear light colors, use sunscreen and constantly hydrate, among other measures.
• 2024 is very likely to be the warmest year on record...
In the next 10 or 15 days, the country will experience the highest temperatures recorded in history ..."
@MsMerope But yes, that would be #1 on my list of "bad stuff that could happen in 2024" list (for folks who don't live in hurricane areas). And, globally. #2 is super-crazy-hurricanes level Texas, Louisiana, or Florida. #3 is H5N1 hops from cows to humans and then it's all bets off. #4 is western wildfires, but that is an assumed risk; that said, a lot of the flammable stuff caught fire in the last 8 years or so, so less fuel. But heatwaves are #1.

Alas, this has nothing to do with pipe or pump organs. So, if you've borrowed someone's Hammond B3 organ for a concert and didn't return it, it's not a Federal crime. #synonyms
"!!SET NOTICE!! This is a SET notice for Ranchman's Camp and Magado's Creek subdivisions to Prepare to evacuate. If you wish to voluntarily evacuate you may go to the Fairgrounds at 101 5th in Capitan"
LOL apparently it's the most exciting day so far for my son (medic, working the search and rescue copter today)... apparently people are getting hurt left and right out in the wilderness. #VenturaCounty#SearchAndRescue#SAR
@ai6yr We were walking on El Escorpion trail earlier today (I was completely unaware until a few minutes ago that we had walked into Ventura County) and saw a group of about 35 people heading up to the Cave of Munits. Hopefully none of them made it onto your son's radar!
@ai6yr available at "north park produce" in poway and other their other spots ih town. this picture is literally years old, but it lives in a separate folder because i need to get it out occasionally :D
New York Times: ‘New Territory’ for Americans: Deadly Heat in the Workplace
"In the coming months, this team of roughly 30 people at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to propose a new rule that would require employers to protect an estimated 50 million people exposed to high temperatures while they work. They include farm laborers and construction workers, but also people who sort packages in warehouses, clean airplane cabins and cook in commercial kitchens. "
"it is expected to meet stiff resistance from some business and industry groups, which oppose regulations that would, in some cases, require more breaks and access to water, shade and air-conditioning.
But even if the rule takes effect, experts say, the government’s emergency response system is poorly suited to meet the urgency of the moment....
Last year was the hottest in recorded history, and researchers are expecting another record-breaking summer, with temperatures already rising sharply across the Sun Belt...
The surge in deaths from heat is now the greatest threat to human health posed by climate change"
