Speaking as someone with a million things they want to work on, but who has been bouncing off the edge of burnout since early 2020, the new “UBI doesn’t mean people will stop working, they’ll just work on what they want to” talking point is just so very, very exhausting.

If someone needs (or hell, wants) to take a UBI benefit and use it to pay bills while they sleep 14 hours a day and do nothing else because the demands of capitalism have destroyed their brains, that should be fine too. UBI should not be an excuse to perpetuate hustle culture.

You won’t convince UBI opponents that it should exist by saying “don’t worry, productivity won’t suffer”, because even if it’s true, it will end up in the same bin as every other piece of evidence that it’s good for people (not the economy, PEOPLE; these two words are not interchangeable), as opposition is not rooted in reasoned arguments to begin with.

I feel like, conceptually, rideshare and meal delivery aren’t inherently bad ideas. Making a broader network of people who can carpool, or giving people the ability to ask their immediate neighborhood “hey I’m going to McDonald’s, anybody want anything?” are cool things, but they’ve been murdered by capital that demands absurd return on investment for being little more than a sophisticated message board that systematically underpays the people who use it.

    For those like me who saw that 10.2 lets you re-enable swipe-to-change-faces but have no idea where they hid the damn setting, it’s in Settings > Clock ON YOUR WATCH. The option doesn’t appear in the Watch app on iOS (where it might actually be searchable).

    The more I think about it, the more I think Uru Live was actually the first "live service" game. It was just so ahead of its time (by easily 15 years) it managed to fail twice before the concept became mainstream.

    It is absolutely unfathomable to me just how badly YouTube wants to prevent people from just seeing the latest videos a person has uploaded on their channel homepage. Now there's this stupid "For You" section at the top of every channel that's 50% bigger than the rest of the thumbnails and I absolutely hate it.

    It's even worse on the TV UI because there's no separate "Videos" tab and it puts the chronological list of uploads at the very bottom, underneath every single playlist the channel has created (because there's actually no tabs at all, it's just the channel page), meaning the more organized your channel is, the harder it is for me to see the last thing you've uploaded.

    I love that "delete this message" makes an Outlook rule client-only, but "move this message to the 'Deleted Items' folder" doesn't.

    Just noticed Bluesky doesn't ACTUALLY add the alt text in the img itself. This is a big mistake and makes the service very inaccessible.

    The text is actually in the very last part of the DOM (Document Object Model) tree... and is triggered via click. So, if the screen reader doesn't support JavaScript same way than for the seeing people, descriptive text is nowhere to be found. Even when it is, it can't be accessed easily.

    Look, I'm not going to sit here and argue that WER for Move, Scale, and Rotate are intuitive keyboard shortcuts in 3D editors, but they're muscle memory for me at this point (23 years), and I would appreciate newer programs NOT CHANGING THAT, especially since there seems to be zero consensus on what any other group of shortcuts should be.

    Godot: WES (you were so close, but Ruler got in the way apparently)
    Blender: GRS (G? Really? Even Photoshop's V shortcut still has a letter from "move" in it if we're going to aim for more intuitive keys)

    Oh thank god, there's an "industry compatible" keymap in Blender now. Dunno when that got added (I basically bounce off Blender after looking at it again about once every couple of years), but bless whoever decided accommodating folks actually familiar with other tools was a good idea.
