Make the shit illegal.

Just make the shit illegal.

We already built out a goon squad for this, it's called the banking system.

You can just make the shit illegal.

But now it's IN the markets, so it's not going to happen.

People on Twitter are debating whether a person using uncommon words like "delve" are trying to sound smarter than they are, or worse, are ChatGPT bots, because "normal" people don't talk like that.

You don't have to get upset, or embroiled in the debate. Not worth the time or attention. But I'll share some important context as your friendly neighborhood Nigerian 🙋🏿‍♂️

Many Nigerians have bigger English language vocabularies and better command of grammar than the typical American or English person

@mekkaokereke I wish “delve” were more common. Instead, Office Speak is using “double-click on that”.

Somehow we humans are like a compost pile.

If we become anaerobic, we become nothing but evil.
If we stay balanced, we will have a rich and good experience to offer to this world.

The path of working with compost has shown me that the most interesting people are those who do not search for control, but those who try to stay grounded and balanced.

Okay. I guess I'm gonna make this account a little more annoying. I'm gonna spend a little time each week exploring my mastodon experience and talking about how to make it better.

I say "annoying" because I'd rather be interesting than just useful. And I think this kind of content is the opposite. Potentially useful but overall not the most interesting. (It's okay if you disagree. We don't have to talk about it)

Haters gonna hate, but I'm actually pumped as hell for .

Apple is adamant about their “Spatial Computing” frame because they badly need to position themselves away from the clunky headsets that came before.

Thing is, I think they've actually done the work to earn the distinction.

https://visionprototypes.com/resources/why-spatial-computing/?ref=masto

alec,
@alec@perkins.pub avatar

@danilo in the same way we saw certain usecases and interactions for the iPhone only come about after it was in the wild and people could really feel liquid multi-touch, I’m hopeful we’ll see the same for the Vision Pro. Headsets could of course be an evolutionary dead end, but this looks like it’s an order of magnitude jump in quality, enough to remove the platform as a bottleneck.

alec,
@alec@perkins.pub avatar

@danilo I also remember how at launch it was all about how you could still navigate desktop web pages on the tiny screen, because there wasn’t a responsive web yet. I wonder what the equivalent to responsive might be for headsets.

I'm so sad all the companies and half the people are leaving NYC and the streets are crime ridden now. (but maybe I'll get a seat on the crosstown bus for once now?) I just came home via the streets so I probably experienced some of the crimes. I wonder what they were? (Maybe it was not getting a seat?? That feels like a crime to me.)

I mean a former president wouldn't just make something like this up, right?

alec,
@alec@perkins.pub avatar

@kboyd @anthrocypher alas the source is lost to the burning embers of Twitter, but a related perspective I liked is code contributions are value-adds, and other contributions are more like value-multipliers. ie good docs and community can make a library 10x more valuable to its users.

Will a new computer programing language take the world by storm in the next 8 years?

Or is the cycle of new languages being born slowing down? Eventually younger languages are just so much easier to use, and free of the structural problems from older languages that they end up taking over.

Or that's what I've seen during my lifetime. Does it go on forever?

alec,
@alec@perkins.pub avatar

@futurebird @peterbautista I have access to GitHub’s Copilot through work. It has been surprisingly useful for filling out boilerplate code for one-off tasks, or dropping in blocks of code that maybe should be in a library but are a little too specific. I do still have to correct it and sometimes even fight it, but it still saves time by giving a good starting point. It’s like pairing with a programmer who has seen a lot but also isn’t really paying attention to your requirements.

Thinking back? it’s shocking Hamilton was a real musical— and a popular one! It’s almost too transparent with its weird liberal post-racial subtexts. The entire concept? a hot mess. But no one said “no. we are not doing this!”

The American zeitgeist had a hunger in that moment. Like John Henry & Joe Magarac… & the boy George Washington who could not tell a lie— we desperately needed a less ugly history for what looked to be (in the eyes of liberals) a nation that might just be cool after all.

alec,
@alec@perkins.pub avatar

@siderea No I agree that if anything was actually bold about Rent it was the representation (never mind the People In Trouble issue). It was marketed as “tackling” AIDS, poverty, addiction, and it kind of held that legacy for a time. Looking at it now it’s only using the themes as an aesthetic. Rent did fill a need for the mainstream to see these communities. But its legacy as a radical production had more to do with its nature as a musical and Broadway at the time.
