Student making me cry with a damn entomology paper. He talked about how, as his identity got squashed growing up, he also buried his love of bugs and had them hibernate. As he was exposed to queer culture and became able to articulate his identity as trans, he also began delving back into bugs, and embracing other aspects of himself once considered "weird."

One thing about disability is that I am still seeking ways to feel a sense of accomplishment when I can't move or think much, and I realized today that I have become inordinately proud of making a lap for my cat Wimsey. She loves laps and will sit on me for hours if allowed. It is often allowed now, and I have a small, purring purpose.

My mom plowed our driveway with her tractor (go mom!) and incidentally caught a bit of soil up. The soil is now swarming with little birds who are probably looking for bugs. A good day for birds.

Our neighbor let her dog bark at us for 20 minutes while she was right out there in the garden, so I started barking and howling back, which seems to have shamed her into shutting the dog up. It was fun to let loose and make a ruckus regardless.

Anyone known of seed/nut mixes for birds that are based on plants native to the area? I'm specifically in the northeastern USA. I want to be able to shower the ground with native plant seeds and have some get eaten and some sprout up. I know for sure we have hickory nuts because a sapling is growing in our septic field, and I need to stop being a baby and remove it.
