My blog imports replies from other social media sites and displays them as comments.
This sometimes leads to people replying on my site rather than to the original commenter.
So I've hacked my WordPress theme to say "Reply on example.com" to give people the choice to leave a public comment or a more private reply.

Without this explanation, I'm don't think I'd have any idea why I'd want to reply on twitter.com. I don't know if you'd consider it, but how about if the header of the comment reads "&username from &network says:" Then there would be an indication that replying on &network has a reason.

🆕 blog! “Rebuilding FourSquare for ActivityPub using OpenStreetMap”

I used to like the original FourSquare. The "mayor" stuff was a bit silly, and my friends never left that many reviews, but I loved being able to signal to my friends "I am at this cool museum" or "We're at this pub if you want to meet" or "Spendi…

@Edent Knowing you can't see likes or replies on the location posts, let me report that both my accounts can see photos and parse the alt-text correctly.
It appears neither can handle the location in the way you intend though. I'll use your form of words from the Mastodon Issue to pop one on the repo if that's OK.

E-BIKE owners!! Did you know?

Let your batteries warm up for a while before charging them. Charging a lithium ion battery when it's close to or below freezing will damage it, permanently reducing its capacity.

This is why: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/263036/why-charging-li-ion-batteries-in-cold-temperatures-would-harm-them

HOT TIP:
Best to charge between 10 to 27 C (50 to 80 F), never below freezing.

Slightly more depressing it's that the battery used in my bike definitely has a temperature sensor, because in the stats (only available to approved maintenance shops) it reports minimum and maximum temperatures it has encountered for ... Get this ... WARRANTY REFUSAL PURPOSES!

Adobe has said the FTC is investigating them for their subscription billing practices and is likely to hit them with a huge fine for violating the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act.

Adobe’s practices are listed below and they’re wild.

Annual Subscription: Adobe will charge 50% of the remaining contract if canceled.

Annual subscription, paid upfront: No refunds on this plan after the first 14 days.

If you ever wondered how this is legal, it turns out it isn’t. 😬

I've yet to find something Premier can do that Davinci Resolve Studio can't. The free (beer) version's good but the £250 one-off cost lifts restrictions on plugins and simultaneous effects.

Name a film you've seen that left you with the thought, "This is art." If you want to explain why it made you feel that way, that would be pretty cool of you.

Drive (the Ryan Gosling one). Virtually silent protagonist, combined with a great score. Clichéd shots in places, but done so well it showed why they've become clichés.

I ordered one on release day from a supplier not listed on the locator. I'm surprised they're not there, but it worked out well for me. It was RS Components in the UK - one of the OG Raspberry Pi 1 sources.

@SimonRoyHughes
Ok, I might struggle to defend this, as I'm merely repeating what I was taught for my degree final project 3 years ago.
There are three distinct sections:

  1. A bibliography should include all literature you have found useful.
    ....
    @bookstodon @reading
alyn,
@alyn@wandering.shop avatar

@SimonRoyHughes
2) References should be for specific portions of specific literature you have used, quoted, or relied upon in the main text.
3) Appendices should not add anything to the references - anything referenced should be important enough that it's in the main body of work. Reading of the appendices should not be required to understand the body of work.
