Any other autistic kin struggle with speech and articulation when they were little?

I'm recording an instructional voice-over today and my mom just told me I used to have a lisp when I was little. That's news to me!

I definitely notice sludgy articulation around L and S sound as an adult. Outside of voice over recording, I could not care less about my articulation. But it is interesting!

I'm currently reading Unmasking Autism by Devon Price and it's super interesting. It surely resonates and I recognize myself in many places.

Reading about "female autism" -- which Price criticizes as a label -- was a real eye opener. I too am a very sensitive and likable person who adjusts to new situations quickly.

For instance, I've noticed ages ago that I take cues from the situation, mirror verbal and nonverbal expressions and mannerisms. I might not give much of my real self if the situation doesn't feel safe. It often doesn't. Plus I'm introverted so there's that.

Another example. When writing to others, I tone my reply to fit the recipient or forum. I've loved using emojis but if the recipient doesn't use them, I haven't used them either.

And now I read this is masking. Mind blown.

Went to the pub with Tom and a close friend. I felt quite normal and was able to engage in the conversation well. Heaps better than this morning. We were all annoyed though by the shrieking cackling women at the next table. My tolerance for drunken noise has greatly diminished since I gave up alcohol myself. Getting ready to go upstairs and read my book in bed now. Thank you to everyone who’s been so lovely today. Wishing you all a pleasant evening/goodnight

Just cried to my psychiatrist for 1/2 an hour. He says that he thinks there is something more than just bipolar going on for me to be having such significant mood shifts within a day. IDK, it’s happened before. He was concerned by how much I have deteriorated since we last spoke.

I told him that living on this rollercoaster is untenable, and that although I don’t have any active plans to end my life, I feel that I can’t be expected to live like this. I’m in a hopeless place right now. He agrees I need more support and is going to raise my case in the community MH team’s multidisciplinary team meeting and with psychological therapies. I told him I really miss having a CPN/therapist to check in with/offload to. He doesn’t want to tweak my meds but will get me some more diazepam. He was sorry to hear my condition, I’m usually so stable when we speak.

Hi beautiful people. Today I did my audition to Berklee. I hope I get it but more than that I hope to get a scholarship as I can't afford the tuition fees. I know it's not likely, such a scholarship is rare and I didn't perform as well as I wanted to if the past few months weren't as heavily challenging as they were since the massacre. I did what I could and hope for the best. Whatsoever in the meantime I'm gonna put my focus back on both projects and jewellery making. More coming soon ❤️
