I think a lot of coastal folks don't think much about the midwest but guys it is fucking bleak here. small pockets of reason in a sea of obedient christian soldiers and they all have the guns and watch fox news like it's church for shut-ins

@mentallyalex I haven't seen that yet! I think it's interesting but not surprising given her proximity to the events, that she chose to talk to j6 folks specifically, and it doesn't surprise me that they're still pretty committed to the path they've chosen.

what really pushes me to despair are that people just don't pay attention, or try to think for themselves, where I live at least. they vote how the pastor nudges them to vote or how their dad voted, never mind that the values they're promoting with those votes run counter to their own interests.

it's the "god's will" mentality that's pushed on a lot of people here from birth, like "don't question why shitty things happen -- it's god's will and you have to trust in that." I was conditioned to not think about contradictions or things that made no sense

@RickiTarr I'm not 100% sure I'm a dude, tbh. I was never very good at it and I'm still not. If I'd known that gender was pretty much bullshit way back when I was a kid, I don't know who I'd be now. But I didn't, and I've crammed myself into a dude-shaped space for almost half a century and I have no idea what to do about it.

tl;dr: I'm not sure I'm even secure in my humanity.
