Crop 1 Early morning view along a rural dirt road. To the right is a barbed-wire and wood post fence surrounding a large farm with a number of big red barn-like structures, and a farmhouse with internal lighting glowing in the dark fog covering the field. To the left the country road with limited street lamp lighting, lined on both sides by tree canopies, creating a tunnel like view off into the distance. In the center, a gigantic pine tree, towering over the farm and country Road, reaching high into the dark foggy sky.
Original. At the time I was impressed and enamored by the incredibly tall pine which "seems" to reach the moon. Later, I felt the foggy farm was a better focus. Or maybe the illuminated country road. Is there any benefit to Vivaldi over Firefox? Pros/cons?

bluewave,

@jake4480
Vivaldi is definitely worth it for the tab management (with Tab Stacks and Workspaces) if that is needed..

Otherwise Firefox (with uBlock Origin) and Vivaldi (with Block Ads and Trackers enabled) are pretty similar.

I find that Firefox's user interface is easier to use out of the box. Vivaldi can be customised exactly to what you want.

I support both, though I use Vivaldi more. Have I been sufficiently ambivalent for your needs?

translations are here! Which is cool because a good chunk of the people I follow are from Finland. And Germany. Not languages I know.

Thank ya @Vivaldi for making more of the world reachable.

Vivaldi's synchronisation works, but it does seem to take its time to sync sometimes. There's this workaround on the Vivaldi forum to force the sync:

If you're syncing from desktop to mobile:

  1. On desktop, go to the link vivaldi://sync . There is a button on page called Trigger GetUpdates. Click on that to get the desktop to sync.

  2. On mobile, open the same link vivaldi://sync and click on the same GetUpdates button.

You're synced. You can reverse steps 1 and 2 to sync from mobile to desktop.

Putting a command to force Vivaldi to sync (a la Firefox) has been a feature request for a while now.

Found in my e-mail. I had purchased version 4.0 of the Opera browser and I stayed until version 12.16. Then I moved to Firefox.

Opera had pioneered all the cool features on browsers. Among other things, I distinctly remember that when Gmail came out, I thought "wow, they're copying Opera Mail and using labels instead of folders".

It's good to be back with you all at . Thanks for the fantastic work you've done and are still doing.

After low-turnout referendum in support, looks to have formally fully annexed (absorbed) the disputed / region, currently controlled by . It had previously labeled it on maps as a special "zone in reclamation".

Venezuela also says it will create new state/province to (theoretically) govern the area, but apparently hasn't done so quite yet.

This is going to be a drawn out mess which no one except Maduro wins, since it's in his interest to distract from the problems in Venezuela and to bolster his chances of reelection in Presidential elections in 2024. He doesn't have to do much, just rattle sabres every now and then to keep it in the news.

The biggest losers are likely to be the Venezuelans who fled to surrounding countries (including Guyana) due to the collapse of the Venezeulan economy, and who are likely to face a backlash of sorts.

Here's a fairly detailed article on the whole situation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Guayana_Esequiba_crisis

Is it likely that Vivaldi.social would be enabling Mastodon translating capabilities?

As an English only speaker, one of the cool features of Mastodon is being able to follow people from all over the world, and I follow a lot of German speakers (and for some reason, Finnish as well. And Czech. And Malaysian).

Translation breaks boundaries beautifully.

This was from earlier. The next couple months are what Arizonans call "winter". It's the only break from the scorching heat we have the rest of the year, and it doesn't happen until end of November now (sigh). It might last til like, April. But it's super mild, and it's one of the few things I really like about Arizona.

Time to get anything done outside I need to 🤣

Meanwhile, here in the Caribbean, Christmas weather means that the daytime humidity drops to 60%. Sometimes even to 45%, which is very nice. Temperature is at 30-33C as usual though.
