This is pretty wild to me, as a citizen who lives in Texas, whose Governor prefers to use the enormous amount of money Texas has in the bank (from taxing its citizenry) on putting up barbed wire into the Rio Grande river and hasn't given teachers in this state a raise since 2019.

President Zelenskyy has more leadership in his pinky nail than Governor Abbott has in his entire upper body.

Would Abbott build underground schools for Texans during war?

No.
Fucking.
Way.

As an IT manager, I get a lot of calls about products companies want me to buy. I've noticed a trend now that these security products all have 'AI' in their name. A dude drop by my school, unannounced yesterday, to tell me about his company's product. Kept making sure to emphasize the 'AI' in the product's name. I listened to his pitch, and once he was done, I told him that anything with AI in the name makes my eyes glaze over and he could send me an email about it. He did bring donuts, though.

We saw Madonna last night, and it was good. Say what you will about her, I think she's got a pretty good heart. A part of her show pays tribute to friends/artists lost to AIDS. The number of incredibly talented people who died in the mid-80s to the mid-90s from this disease boggles the mind. Art and culture took a huge hit.

Millennials and GenZ really have zero understanding of how it was to live in a time where sex could absolutely kill you, and now where we are denied so much incredible art.

Back in 2017 my girlfriend and I took my daughter and two of my girlfriends god-children with us to Oregon to see the 2017 eclipse.

We spent the night in the field of farm that was renting out spots to view the eclipse.

Here's a video of the eclipse seen through a lens specifically made for eclipse's. You can hear how completely in awe I was of how beautiful it was.

A white halo surrounds a black hole in a black sky.

We flew up to Portland and drove an hour or so south to Silverton.

It was absolutely stunning. Barely a minute and 40 seconds or so, but it felt like longer. I am hoping for a break in the clouds/rain on Monday when we'll get over four minutes of totality. We'll drive about 20 miles west from our house, otherwise we'd only get about 3 minutes.

I cannot imagine totality being that long!

Never call the cops for mental health issues. They only know how to kill, they're not healthcare professionals. They never improve the situation. They're killers with itchy trigger fingers and an insatiable blood lust.

2nd Amendment ammosexuals here in the United States, who have this fantasy belief system that revolves around having an AR-15 to protect themselves against The Gubbment should take a lesson as to what is happening right now in Gaza. When a far superior force wants to inflict their will upon you, death will come from above, from planes that cost 60M dollars delivering their laser-sighted 1000 pounds of explosives to your doorway, leveling your entire apartment building (or shack, or whatever).

@Mrfunkedude

The first movie I saw in a theater with an intermission was The Right Stuff. Was seeing it with my Dad, and really had no idea such a thing existed.

Fun fact about The Right Stuff: the first voice you hear in the movie, the narrator, is The Band's Levon Helm. He plays Chuck Yeager's friend Jack Ridley, who gives him a requested stick of Beemans before he made his historic flight breaking the sound barrier (and one more pivotal part of the film).

I'm gonna be honest y'all, it's felt dark lately, and for good reason, LGBTQ+ rights in the balance, an election coming up, women struggling to get basic Healthcare, mass shootings, SCOTUS, the environment. The list goes on and on, and the media twists everything to sound even worse, or just straight up ignores actual news. But here's the thing, I know a lot of you, and the fact that you exist in the world gives me hope. You care about the future and you want good things, and so do I, and as long as that spark is there, we have hope. So, let's focus on some good today! Share a good headline, some positive news either on a larger scale or just something personal, a nice picture you took, a funny meme or video, whatever made you feel good or at least, gave you a smile. Let's share some joy!

Our swallows have returned from down south. Really early this year.

We were going to knock down their existing nest this weekend and force them to build fresh, as this nest is 5 seasons old and is small, but I was watching our doorbell camera today, and ... well, it's too late. We noticed a dead chick on the ground under the nest from last year this past weekend, so I guess they've been here a few days, and are already prepping the nest for the season.

I'm just a white heterosexual cis dude (I'm the last they'll come after), but you people better wake up and get registered to vote if you care about the girls and women in your life, your gay friends, your trans friends. Every day it's something. Today, with the personhood of embryos. These fuckers will give rights to embryos but take away the rights you have right now (equal access to marriage, healthcare, and more). This is not the time to sit idle. Get registered, get your friends registered.

It's not a time to hem and haw about Biden, either. Or, about Democrats, in general. There is only one side that is trying to make life incredibly difficult for a SUBSTANTIAL portion of our society: Republicans. Get in your car, take the subway or a bus, ride your bike, walk or fucking crawl to your voting location in November and VOTE for people who AREN'T actively trying to make people YOU care about (yourself included) have more difficult lives.

Go vote. Do it. We are all counting on you.
