I want the new https://fediverse.info/explore/people People Directory to be easier to browse, so when you search or click on a topic that isn't popular you'll see a red X that you can click to remove.

Now I'm thinking about adding advanced filtering so you can hide results based on topics, domains and usernames.

Also considering adding Lists support so you can build and curate lists of accounts that are easily shareable.

Imma ship this before I get too carried away ๐Ÿ˜…

New fediverse.info People Directory design

@dansup You might as well go one step further and make a csv file export option so the lists can easily be imported into platforms like Calckey, which donโ€™t require you to be following an account to have it on a list.

Has anyone made contact with the people behind ? I think many people would like to use it, but it has a few unlabelled buttons in the room UI.
I havenโ€™t been able to find any way to contact them but this would be a big hit in the blind community if it were a bit more .

I added some more FAQs to https://jointhefediverse.net/learn.

Is there anything else that comes up a lot from folks just learning about the fediverse?

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@stefan Stefan, thanks for putting this together. One of the things I wish I had better understood early on is how to use followed hashtags to refine the content in my timelines. That really helped me find accounts to follow and start interacting in the community. I see you're focusing on the fediverse in general, so I know it works a bit differently across platforms (Calckey = Antennas, for example)

Filters are going to need a deep dive, just like preview cards. Rules arenโ€™t applied consistently across apps.

Even when you identify something you want completely hidden, they are often still included as a content warning. :emoji_squint:

Direct searches behave differently as well. Some apps say, "Well, you searched, so obviously you want to see it regardless of your filters, so here you go." Others show "removed from timeline" for every post removed. Others show nothing.

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

I have to wonder if we would be better off if the filter logic was applied server side before the api results are received so it would be more consistent across apps.

about computed functions and refactored a bit of code.

Mastodon filters are complete - my little won't have a notification or account profile feed, so those aren't going to be added. Needs a bit of testing.

Also, I used for the first time as a development partner...and...I found it extremely helpful while learning something new.

I get that it's not 100% accurate but it's a constant, calm partner that doesn't get annoyed with all my questions. ๐Ÿ˜„

@box464 Your "Ice Refills" for seems to have stopped working on my iPhone. Possibly after the update to though I'm pretty sure I've seen it work since then.

So I made a home screen shortcut to the @dimillian GitHub, and it fails the same way - tap it and the color changes for a moment but nothing else happens.

But both of them work properly from inside the iPhone app, and both work even on the home screen on my iPad (also 16.4.1).

Do you see this issue?

box464,

@LorenAmelang Hmm..it's still working for me on iOS and MacOS, too. Shutdown / Restart?

    @KrissyKat I had to use something called Trumpet and WinSock to connect to the internet from my schools connection. Got my account disabled and had to walk down to the computer lab to talk to a group of angry admins about how I did it. Had no idea I was doing anything sneaky!

    ๐Ÿ”ฅ New Mastodon iOS App Alert ๐Ÿ”ฅ

    It's called @radiant and it's on TestFlight.
    The app focuses on all the basic features, but also puts a fine polish on each of them. ๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿผ

    A unique feature is multi-tags. Ever been confused with the multiple hashtag filter? Radiant makes it simple with a "Multi Tag" timeline.

    I created a multi tag setup to show all "" entries with ANY of the tags shown. So I get a nice timeline of polls that are about the current state of the fediverse. ๐Ÿฅณ

    box464,
    @box464@mastodon.social avatar

    @cheeaun @radiant Bummer. Still useful, tho. The issue mentioned is right - this should be bubbled up through the API so anything submitted over the limit throws an error back.

    has an app called which provides some basic "Getting to know SharePoint/Office 365" tutorials.

    You can also include your organization's own training documents. It's nice.

    But - Microsoft throws some "pay to play" guardrails and doesn't allow you to add links to external sites like YouTube. Lame.

    You can get around it by creating a powerpoint and placing a YouTube or whatever link you want into a slide, then referencing the PowerPoint.

    As we edge closer to the Analytics switchover, I'm receiving more emails from our 3rd party site vendors with an interesting take. The basic message is this:

    "UA is no longer going to work, we're not going to spend our time moving you over to GA4 ourselves because it's difficult. If you want to do it, you're on your own. Did we mention your existing data will be erased?"

    Some have given alternatives or pointed to internally built analytic dashboards.

    Not a good sign for Google.

    states that an upcoming feature will be โ€œCross-platform postingโ€, although itโ€™s not quite clear what that means. Since the CEO constantly posts to Twitter, I assume that will be the first platform that gets integrated. But will it include or cross posting?

    This was my PC I owned when I started learning about HTML, CGI, etc. A Compaq Presario CDTV 528. In 1995, it was unheard of, but this beloved bits and bolts had a tv tuner in it.

    You could watch live tv, record it, and connect a VCR and dub audio/video. I learned SO MUCH with it. And upgraded it. And broke it. And rebuilt it.

    Honestly kind of wish I had kept it. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’พ

    I'm increasingly see tech conferences recognize that "hybrid" events are actually two events happening at once, plus additional coordination to connect them. And I'm seeing some of these events take steps to staff those appropriately. This gives me hope.

    box464,
    @box464@mastodon.social avatar

    @jonafato Our hybrid events are now separated by a week. The online event occurs the week after the in person event and serves as a way to extend learning and interaction among attendees. Plus it provides better support for both versions from our staff.

    I REALLY donโ€™t like big social asking to get into my contacts every time I open their app, or alerting me when they find a coworker or relatives secondary account that I never wanted to know about. Itโ€™s like having your own stalker copilot. Gross.
