Having ideas and a desire to help is a sort of kryptonite for me. I live to serve and help but I don’t have the spoons, energy, et al to do it all. I need a cohort of body doubles. It’s not that I fancy myself a manager or director, but I’m just not enough for all the doing.

I’m looking forward to being in an Autism panel next week. And helping arrange caregiver events in May. The burnout risk is real and triggers negative self-thoughts.

When it comes to ST: Discovery I am very much in the mindset of "Well, I've come this far..."

Early on I defended it, sure it was different, not the Trek we were used to, but that was fine.

I started losing patience from Season 2. The stakes were too big, the solutions to small, and the characters too stubborn in their utter refusal to have an arc involving any kind of development beyond who can produce the greatest litreage of tears. 1/3

@pupether I’m yet to start this final season of but the range of negative feeling is interesting. In general, my feeling has been that it’s very pretty but hasn’t quite figured out what story it’s telling our what it wants to be when it grows up. had the same issue, IMO.

Of the recent offerings, has actually been my favorite.

But it’s and I shall watch, read, etc.

@garak I’ve experienced earthquakes on both coasts. They’re quite uncommon in New England area. I hear this one was centered in New Jersey. When I lived in upstate New York, the couple we had were from Canada! Heh

Recently I was adjusting my son’s parental control on his tablet, and thought ya know I guess I really should just allow my iCloud.com email (that I don’t really use) to make me more findable for messsages and FaceTime.

Not even 47 hours later I r had four scams texted to me and randomly added to some crazy group. Uh no. We’l just leave that stupid thing turned off now. Yikes.

@thunderbird This is decent news. Though I’ve tended to prefer flatpak. That said, any ideas if it will support profile and message store outside the user homedir? I prefer profile in non COW file system. But doing this is a pain right now. I’d love to be on beta full time!

Really had a nice time at a rubiks cubing event Saturday. But it also utterly burned me out. Way bigger than normal, and a lot of sitting and waiting because naturally they experimented with new procedures in the same 4x larger venue.

Need a deeper darker hole to wallow in this time. Sunday wasn’t enough.

@arcadetoken If I “do” anything for my , I like to spend it with family or friends. We don’t have to be doing anything in particular. There doesn’t need to be cake. The fewer the better, as far as I’m concerned. Just being with them is quite enough.

@taber Nothing bums me out more than thinking I know what things I can luxuriate and on in a given day, only to be by surprise meetings and “oh do you have a few minutes?” slacks.

So whenever possible I refer them to my , starting the next business day, or feel free to slack a channel and someone who’s bored will answer.

@jsnell As for the howling at the , I see some valid concerns. But fellow geeks, we’ve been here before. It’s going to take forever, be basically by the time it’s done, and any actual changes will mostly whatever they touch.

So how is any of this supposed to be about …? That’s the part I just don’t buy. This is not the path. We’ve been here before and the wood’s all rotted or disintegrated.

It’s crazy how easilyr my sleep pattern gets derailed. Yesterday all it took was me falling asleep early enough that I woke at 2:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

I spent most of Monday in a weird zombie state. But in the evening I forced myself to stay up until I zonked around midnight.

I woke at 4:30 or so and felt fresh as a spring lamb. Still baffles me. Sleep irregularity is the norm in my experience.

🧵1/2 Someone has a really rotten sense of humor today. I make a simple request of IT, and have to do it in a channel that’s truly horrible about doing things properly. Fine.

But then hours and hours go by. So I finally decide to run an errand for my son after lunch. I’m about five minutes from home, driving, when several people pop into my slack asking to help.
