@StillIRise1963 Reaching its use by date. It came to me bc someone thought it was puffy. We don't distribute those at the food pantry. So I had it for my dogs but I noticed a lack of puff and ate it myself.

Is piano a string instrument or a percussion instrument?

ccdudley85,
@ccdudley85@mastodon.world avatar

@RickiTarr Both the Airforce and Navy concert bands group the piano, guitar, bass and drums into a rhythm section. Kind of cool to see their interactions on stage.

Okay, you can choose a real person you'd love to see a movie made about, who is the person, and who would you cast in the starring role?

I'm picking Tiny Tim, played by Finn Wolfhard.

Since, my last post ended up in a long thread about the pros and cons of sports, I'm curious, what is your family and personal history with sports?

I'll go first! My Dad grew up in a Sport's household. His Dad, my grandfather, was obsessed, and he wanted his sons to be too. My grandfather was tall with an athletic build like a swimmer, but he married a very petite 4'8" woman, who never weighed over a hundred pounds. Both my Dad and his Brother were average height with a slight build, neither played sports or were good at it when they tried. Not liking sports became my Dad's rebellion. He became a preacher instead, his Dad grew up in a Preacher's family, and hated it. When I was growing up, my Dad always pushed intelligence and spirituality over physicality, we only had a game on if my Grandfather was there. I got a little of both my parents, I've always been small and plump, what science calls a dumpling (please don't fact check this). I enjoyed group activities and non competitive sports. For instance I played volleyball (very poorly), but only enjoyed it if I was on the B team, and had no pressure to succeed in it. I did go through a brief period where I pretended to be really into sports, because I thought it would impress boys. I'd watch just enough to get highlights. I was basically like Moss in I.T. Crowd. Did you see that ludicrous display last night?!

ccdudley85,
@ccdudley85@mastodon.world avatar

@RickiTarr My father has scarlet fever and was weakened by it and so did not play as a kid. My introduction was through kids in the neighborhood. I could rarely hit a baseball but I developed a love for the flight of the ball and played outfield to catch those flyballs. In soccer I played fullback, again with the long flights to clear the ball down field. When I discovered ultimate, I was enthralled and played through college. Running to meet the disk was great. 1

ccdudley85,
@ccdudley85@mastodon.world avatar

@RickiTarr In the solitary sports I especially liked cross country skiing and I always swam a lot. This is the sport that has lasted owing to low impact and this summer I swam three miles for the first time after figuring out how to avoid the two mile leg cramps.

As a spectator I grew up going to college hockey games with hot chocolate in the stands (Go Mules!). Now I go to minor league baseball games sometimes. 2

Since I'm stuck inside again, tell me a podcast I should listen to.

Give me an episode that you think best represents the podcast.

New Year has always been accompanied by complex feelings for me. Time has always felt like it was moving too fast, even as a child, and New Year is a stark reminder that another year has come and gone.

A lot of people use this moment to think about how they'd like to change, New Year, New You, but inevitably we are still ourselves. In the end though, I'm the worst person of all, an Optimist. I really believe that things can and do get better, and in the case, of New Year, New You, maybe the old you is pretty good already, and you just did the best you could last year, and you're gonna do your best this year too.

Our time is short, weird, wonderful, heartbreaking, and fascinating. I'm here for it, and I'm incredibly lucky to have this group of people to chat with, empathize with, and learn from. I'm ringing in the New Year with gratitude.

Anyway, as usual that was verbose, but please, tell me your thoughts on the New Year, Anything you want to talk about is fine!
