I once saw a post about a #selfhosted fitness/activity website similar to #Strava, but i cannot find it anywhere here nor on the web. Does anyone know? I think it supported uploading your track files for cycling, running and more.

Uuuhhh, gerade entdeckt: Das Goethe-Institut hat auf YouTube eine Reihe "Dialekte Hotline", in der sie alle möglichen Dialekte der deutschen Sprache vorstellen. Ist ganz lustig gemacht und hat auch Untertitel, ist also sowohl was für Muttersprachler*innen als auch für Menschen, die Deutsch lernen.

Day 2 of searching for a job

Man it's hard to get a coding job if you have never worked before it seems. I have nothing to show compared to others, despite being a good programmer myself. I think. I have worked on a bunch of technically impressive projects such as writing a DS game in rust, allocating the function stack in the heap, an algorithm that generates mazes, my very own shell and some others.

Despite all that, I have no experience with Bootstrap, Angular, Django or whatever so no job.

I don't understand why some #WebDev "professionals" often use only ready-made #CSS libraries for website design. No, not everything is easy but, for example, creating #links so that users can see how they lead outside the #website is standard in my opinion.

I have illustrated it for clarification. You can of course change the #logo's to other UTF-8 characters or position according to the desired #design ;)

I wonder why #Synology is such a shit show if you want to have some deeper customization. I want to add a #NFS share for my server, which runs #NextCloud, but i cannot really get the permissions right. On the server, i can just set the correct uids in my #NixOS config, on synology, that is almost impossible.

I own the domain https://flatpak.app and have been hosting an experiment there for a while: short URLs for Flatpak apps.

First, a caveat: I know why Flatpak and Flathub don’t mess with short IDs and have chosen RDNN! And I mostly agree with it. Buuuut…

Is there some value in having a link to:

flatpak.app/dippi

…instead of:

flathub.org/apps/com.github.cassidyjames.dippi?

Also, you can treat it like a search, as non-exact URLs will redirect to a search on Flathub.

Since i am not celebrating this day for some reasons, i have time to code while my family is asleep. The last hour, i implemented the wrapper functions, for setting up/logging in/unlocking accounts and saving state to the db for the #BitWarden #LinuxMobile client.
We are getting somewhere.
Some GUI stuff and decryption is still on the list before you can check out the code.

I've gone full #keeb nerd and added a #trackball to my work setup. 2 x 22inch (55cm) monitors with my laptop screen as a third displaying the keymapp app from ZSA to show me where the keys are on each layer (I'm slowly learning) and now an old trackball which was sitting around in the office. I haven't used one since I was little, so I'll see how I get on with it for a week before I get my own.

My biggest enemy today in #Rust is the fact, that i cannot implement/extend traits from another crate. So i wanted to use structs from the #rbw crate since i am piggy-backing on their logic, but since i need Debug on those, because i am writing a #Relm4 app, i am screwed. Or am i missing something?
I mean i could just use my own types based on the rbw ones, since they are not likely to change (the crate looks feature-complete), but meh, is there a better way?

I've been having a fairly subpar experience with running @nixos_org on Digital Ocean and/or Oracle Cloud, do people have any recommendations for VPS providers that they know work well with #NixOS and won't immediately ban my account for the crime of living in India (looking at you Hetzner and Scaleway)?
