RIP Mars, 2010 - 2024
This morning I found Mars run over by a car. I miss him very much. We got him from the shelter and he showed his gratitude every day. He was cuddly, playful, a rascal and very curious. Wherever I was, Mars wasn't far away and he spent many cuddly hours on my lap. I am stunned and incredibly sad. My heart is broken and I am crushed 🖤
Goodbye Mars, miss you, Thank you for love 😭 😿

A-mazing…

@DJDarren Nah, it’s mostly the gammons participating. Rubbing themselves into a frenzy because they think they ‘showed the woke’ when anyone with a conscience was doing something else tonight and really wasn’t paying attention.

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

crinolinerobot,
@crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

@RickiTarr Also, the alternative is that all we see is the awful stuff, the hatemongering and cruelty, and so that becomes the new normal. I’d rather see people doing good things and that becoming the baseline.

People who criticise the visibly decent could well fear their own awfulness being highlighted by contrast. Hence the attempts to cover up a lot of basic human decency under a pall of ‘woke’.

The UK government is being particularly dreadful to trans people BUT if you're cis and need the prospect of your rights being threatened next to support trans people now, you're a bit of a self-interested shit. Support trans people because love and support are wonderful things to give, not because you might need to receive a bit of love and support yourself at some point.

Love you, trans pals

Been reading a thread about Britain’s ‘obesity epidemic’, and it’s amazing how many thin people know how to fix it.

People clamber over themselves to wax lyrical about how we should encourage more exercise (we should), and how fast food joints should be held to account (they should), but the loudest voices never talk about it being a mental health issue.

I’m a fat fuck, I know I should exercise more and eat better. I did that for a year once and lost 30kg. Then I put it all back on again.

crinolinerobot,

@DJDarren There's also the issue that people on the lowest incomes are more likely to live places where the parks have been built over/there's limited public space, the kids' schools don't have playing fields. And the streets aren't particularly safe.

I know my TSH levels would have me treated for thyroid issues in other countries. So the NHS will have to put up with me being fat and sleepy, because they're the ones saying This Is Fine.

New issue of Edge is definitely landing with subscribers now. Anyway, as it's our 30th anniversary, this one's a bumper one - 146 pages, plus a poster of covers right from issue one. Not going to lie, it was a lot of work, but it looks great. For the main feature we run down the 100 greatest from Edge's lifespan, as chosen by developers, our readers and the team.

Two transmasc people I follow on IG have put up amazing outfit photos recently, and it's made me realise they always have smashing clothes. Is it just the ones I follow, or do all transmasc people have gloriously dandy dress sense?

If you're in the , the petition to require companies to keep ticket offices and staff at stations only needs another 3,500 signatures to force a parliamentary debate, so please sign if you haven't already.

It's a really important issue, and the closures are opposed by the RMT (National of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers) .

The Urchins get a rude awakening as they’re having their annual vet checkup/vaccination this . They were found as feral kittens and only really like me, my husband and the woman next door - they definitely don’t like being put in little boxes and taken to the vet.

That said, they never scratch or bite - they’re really lovely little cats.

Stop yelling, , it’s because we want you to stay healthy!

(Yes, I am a grown woman who likes trains. I even have a train duvet cover. It was a gift from my husband, who enjoys calling me a nerd.)

Apols to all at bytetower.social for accidentally doing three toots in a row - as replies don't appear in the local timeline, I'd assumed replies to myself (a thread) wouldn't appear. If I'd realised, I would have unlisted the second and third toots.

I went to see the new Indiana Jones film today and loved it.

If nothing else, we old farts need to see other old farts punching Nazis, not voting for them.

My latest project is complete - a casual summer shirt for my husband. He bought a guayabera in Cuba about 25 years ago and loved it, but eventually it wore out. This comes pretty close in style and feel. The pattern is McCall’s 8263 (with a pair of extra pockets, to match that bygone guayabera) and the fabric Robert Kaufmann Manchester cotton.

Stinky meat plant is flowering! We’ve had some rain today which seems to have brought it out. I’m not sure what it’s really called, but it smells of rotting flesh so it grows at the very end of the garden.

Quite proud of this shot… The flower is a Dutch iris, ‘Bronze Perfection’, bought from JParkers. I expected the Dutch iris to come out when the reticulated ones did, so put it down to the hard winter when none flowered in March. Husband and I were delighted when they flowered recently!

So, Masto hive mind, can anyone recommend indie makers to me? I'm trying to support small businesses more, so direct from the maker, or from a specialist shop that promotes indies would be ideal. (Bonus points if they're in the UK like I am, so save postage/carbon footprint!)
