Here comes a thread on light pollution from satellites, with a concrete action that you all can take to help push for regulation of satellites in orbit!

Astronomers have been worried about light pollution from satellites (if you've been following me for more than 24 hours, you've perhaps heard a bit about this). Astronomers spent SO much time and effort begging and pleading with Starlink to make their satellites fainter, with mixed results.

I'm confused. Is there no way to simply override the PHP's default file:// stream wrapper? Why must I reinvent the default implementation just to make one small change? Has nobody even published an unofficial implementation that can be "good enough"? Filters are great, but I can't auto-append them to every stream, which also means that I can't change the opening part. unless I missed something (docs are a bit light there).

@afilina You have the most “interesting” problems. I presume constraints mean this needs to be dynamically only at run time, too? No pre-writing the files before execution?

Working again! Cannondale SM400. New tires and tubes, and rim tape. Must be from between 1987 and 1990 or so? Will also need to lubricate the shifters. Actually my son's bike, which he was riding in college (only a few years ago). When his tires were not exploding, LOL. Apparently no one thought to change out the rim tape at his college bike repair shop. 🤨 #BikeTooter

For all the talk about how “small towns are friendlier” it sure does suck that one of my neighbours has a floor fan I bought via Amazon. No point in asking because they don’t really like me due to my non-obsessive behaviour over my lawn. Cutting the lawn once a week is not enough apparently.

Courier says “package handed to resident” but Amazon has refunded me.

I'm in npm dependency hell, where I have no idea what I need to uninstall so that my testing framework can be updated to work with the online examples, but without updating the other dependencies, which could break the app itself.

I got so spoiled by Composer in PHP that any time I step into the JS ecosystem, I lose my temper rather quickly.

"It's a DTO so it shouldn't have methods, just data" is an excellent way to end up with procedural spaghetti with a class keyword floating around.

American friends — if your former President is saying that he did nothing wrong, what is the explanation his lawyers gave for the payment that was made to Stormy Daniels? I haven’t followed any of this stuff because I cannot vote in American elections.

@grmpyprogrammer I don't know their explanation, but paying "hush money" is not illegal, which is why the lawyers, spin doctors and mass media kept using that term. What was illegal, and what he was actually convicted of, is falsifying business records to secretly and hence fraudulently skew the results of the election. So it's not about the actual payment, but the manner in which the money was raised, recorded and paid, I think. IANAL, YMMV.
