Happy Anniversary! That was when the ELO blu-ray was due. Did it arrive in time? Hope the anniversary is great.

When we moved here I was curious why the decades old culverts under roads seemed so large. Did the water occasionally get that high? Seeing as how a brook cut through our property I was a bit concerned.

No one seemed to know until I talked to an old timer who said all the town culverts were 8 feet high to accommodate traveling moose.

So that’s my story. True or not. Just the chance that this area once considered the needs of moose is one reason why I love living here.

Close up of some very fresh Wolf’s Milk slime mold on an old stump. Don’t tend to find a lot around here in December.

This is not a great photo, but was a great occasion. After 15 months of being in the same house, this is the first time we've ever seen one of the other two cats share a bed with Zaz.
Badger (another Cornish Rex cat) is in the front, with Zaz looking surprised in the background. A real breakthrough.

Happy all!

Torties can have such a variety of colors and hues. Sometimes she looks quite ordinary - dark brown with some lighter patches. But when she’s in the sun, well it’s amazing technicolor dreamcoat time. Happy .

@EllieK Just took a look at her photos. Gorgeous! That one with her on your neck is so sweet! You’re right, she has an array of coloring.

@EllieK Yes, that picture is terrific. And she definitely looks like a tortie in it. Her face in the picture of your profile looks that way too!

@EllieK Oh. Hmmm. Tortie x 2?
Have they appeared in a photo together? I’ll need proof. :)

Barred Owl
Today is a good day for a barred owl photo.When we had bird feeders in our front garden, we used to see hawks waiting in the branches to pounce on unsuspecting goldfinches and the like which I didn’t appreciate.Owls, though, come out later and so they watch for mice that are probably making nests in our car brakes and the like. They're welcome to them. I love this face.Here's looking at you! Happy Owl Day.

@EllieK There it is! Your owl has more brown on the face than mine. And speaking of car brakes (lol) we have a Carolina Wren that seems to have taken a liking to the area above our car’s wheel! Gonna have to keep an eye on that one.

@EllieK When I worked for Audubon I once saw a squirrel do the exact same thing! Ran right up a tree to a waiting Great Horned Owl who grasped it and flew off with the struggling squirrel, when out of nowhere a Red-tailed Hawk divebombed the owl. They tussled about 10 feet off the ground before dropping the squirrel who scampered to safety. The 2 birds spent a few seconds realizing neither had the squirrel, who no doubt had a epic story to tell. One of my favorite nature moments ever.

No need for a thermometer or weather app - just locate how close Pippin is to the warmth of the laptop. In this case, pretty close.

On that same fallen tree I discovered in the middle of the brook, I also found this large fruiting of Late Fall Oysters. Their caps can often be a slightly slimy unappetizing green color, but these are quite nice.
