\o/ I started some Christmas Fern seeds indoors over winter, to plant out in spring. Instructions said sprouting would take many weeks ... but they're up after one week under a grow light! Woohoo!
They also, apparently, make good house plants...
(Let's see if they're really ferns 😉 One does hear odd stories about mail-ordered seeds!)

I've been noodling on a concept for a coaching program for 10 months. I'm patient ;->

Tonight it all just fell out of my head onto paper, bam, bam, bam. All the pieces that have been accumulating suddenly fit naturally together. Still work to do, but it's no longer a mystery \o/

I love when that happens.

Jurt heard a familiar and haunting cover of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock ("We are stardust, we are golden...) and hunted down whose version it was.

Duh. It was the original, a very young Joni Mitchell! Her voice has changed a lot since then. I'm more familiar with her Blue period, she sounded deeper.

A reminder about hashtags:

Please use camelCase when writing hashtags.
It allows screenreader software to properly parse the hashtag so it makes sense to visually limited users.

Don't be lazy and use the all-lowercse suggestions your client app suggests :-\

Yes, I just read an article that reeked of 'AI'. 🤢
It's really distracting - made me unsure if any of the sentences I read there are factual.

"AI systems can do some remarkable party tricks, but there's a huge difference between producing a plausible sentence and a good one. After the initial rush of astonishment, the stench of botshit becomes unmistakable."

This makes me want to scream: how is this not obvious and normal?! Gaahh!

As a person experiencing long covid effects, and reading about folks who are much worse off than I am, I ask: how can we not all be wearing masks in closed public spaces?

We know it can be spread by asymptomatic people. And that risk of severe increases with multiple exposures (whether you felt sick or not).

I wouldn't wish long covid on anyone. 😢

Retail food profits in have more than doubled:
▪ 2019: $2.4B net income
▪ 2023: > $6B

🧐 The grocery chains were called to Ottawa to explain…

Loblaws, Metro, Sobey:
😱 "Profiteering? No, no, no!"

But food inflation has been higher than the general rate of inflation, & Cdns are buying fewer groceries (honestly, I don't know how some of my neighbours manage.)

So what explains these record profits?

Interesting: a medical show set here in Toronto, called Transplant. Good cast - top actors, multilingual, multi-ethnic. Lots of women.

First episode introduces our protagonist in a too-common scenario here: a trained Syrian doctor working in a fast food restaurant.

It's nice to see cops portrayed as we do it here - start with talk, not guns.

▪ 𝕏 is a generic Unicode character known as "mathematical double-struck capital X."

▪ The new logo is also nearly identical to the lowercase "x" in the Monotype font "Special Alphabet 4."

"Much of the pushback against the 15-minute city concept is rooted in fiction rather than fact.

The claims start with the idea that limiting car use is government overreach, an attack on individual freedom (even though, as Toderian says "ironically, it's providing more choice").

From there, it gets, well, weird.

Limiting cars & promoting pedestrian or bike access is framed as a slippery slope to government-run, open-air prisons"
