Melaleuca rhaphiophylla or paperbark grows in swamps and along estuaries on the south coast of Western Australia. It has great bark of course, but we found it absolutely covered in flowers in some locations. .

"It would be much easier to use NPIs to drive Re to much below 1 and keep it there until elimination when starting from Re around 1.2-1.3 than when it was over 3, and this moment should be used, before another radically new serotype appears and takes us back to those even more unpleasant situations. This is not a technical problem, but one of political and social will."

You guys, I just spent a year turning this useless sloped backyard with useless muddy grass on it into a couple of slightly more useful terraces. All of my exercise for the past many months has consisted of shoveling dirt and woodchips and dry-stacking old concrete blocks and bricks I scavenged from the little house they tore down next door to put up the much bigger house you can see in the “after” photo. Third photo is the view from above.

The same sloped backyard, but it has been adorned with two concrete block terraces with curved walls and a central staircase.
View of the terraces and stairs from above.

@marnier That is an impressive amount of work. Hope you can get to the fun part now!

On the way to grocery shopping today, we bought some cotton-linen to make more reusable napkins for everyday use. I really don’t want to make more right now, (I have a lot of funner things on my list), but we’re now back to using too many paper napkins lately, so we need them. I usually do plain wide hems with mitred corners, but thinking about maybe using some decorative stitches or machine to make it more interesting? Or not…?… @sewing

earthmothering9,
@earthmothering9@aus.social avatar

@DanielMenjivar @sewing Good idea! I have a collection of cloth serviettes (Aussie) which I found in op shops. They wash up well and I have only ever had to throw one or two out in years due to staining.

I bought this gazania plant for $2.50 at a hardware store. It had no label and looked very sad but I know that half dead looking gazanias can be easily revived. Several weeks later and I am rewarded with this spectacular flower that looks even better in real life than this photo.

Some people have objected to my position that no injury can ever morally justify harming people who have not harmed you.

Some Israel apologists have demanded I answer: what if it was your family that Hamas murdered?

Some Hamas apologists have demanded I answer: what if you were subject to the occupation?

And the short answer is: I don’t know. I’ve been subject to violence and abuse in my life, but never those particular situations, so I can’t be sure how I’d respond.

But the longer answer is: I’m only human, and I might respond in really horrible ways. I might lash out; I might hurt innocent people; I might abandon my moral calculus and do terrible things to people who have done me no harm in an attempt to survive or to exact revenge.

And, if I did so…I would become someone else’s abuser and oppressor, and I should rightfully be opposed for it.

As many of you here, and as all of you who have met or worked with me, know, I am an Israeli.

I’m also a life long peace activist for Israel-Palestine.

Unfortunately, MANY of you have taken the last few days to attack me, call me a murderer, lecture me about the world I grew up and lived in for 35+ years of my life, dare to speak down to me and over me, erase my history and lifelong dedication for Palestinian rights, and even wished me to die.

Others of you have taken the opportunity to call me an antisemite, a race traitor, a horrible person, a hypocrite, a terrorist, and erase my history and lifelong dedication to Jewish life and making Israel a better place to live.

Yet, VERY FEW of you have asked how I am. How is my family? How are my friends? How are YOU?

Well, no. I have my family & friends in deep crisis. Many have lost their own other family and friends, parents, siblings, kids and lovers - some by bullets, others by fire, others by kidnapping. A comrade of mine lost his parents. An other had their 16 year old son taken into Gaza. Too many people I know or am connected to have been murdered or taken. And I use the word murder, not killed, because sleeping civilians in their home or at a party are not military combattants. Babies aren’t targets.

I also have Palestinian friends who have lost families in Gaza from the bombs currently falling from IDF planes. My heart aches for them too as theirs does for me.

But many of you only care about death when one side fits your own narrative and unformed and ignorant beliefs.

So no, I’m not OK. I’m not OK at all.

Keep reading in the next post
