Ich habe gerade den Fehler gemacht, für K1 das (~31€/Monat) bestellen zu wollen.

Bisher hat es eine reguläre Schülermonatskarte (51€/Monat).

Erinnere mich dunkel daran, dass wir zu diesem Thema schonmal eine Mail bekommen hatten, die wir damals aber mangels Zeit ignoriert hatten.

Gefunden: vom 05.12.2022 von DB RegioBus RAB: man soll sich bis spätestens 31.12.2022 für das Ticket entscheiden.

Da ich keinen Grund sehe, warum ich mich nicht auf später dafür entscheiden…

…können sollte, versuche ich trotzdem eines zu buchen. Das sollte ja in 2-3 Minuten wie jeder andere Onlinekauf auch erledigbar sein.

Jetzt bin ich verwirrt: das bisherige Ticket haben wir von DB RegioBus RAB bekommen, das neue soll vom Verbund, also kommen?

Ich schaue erstmal bei DB RegioBus RAB auf der Homepage vorbei. Ok, deren Seite zum verweist ebenfalls wieder auf den Verbund "naldo":

Dort finde ich jetzt 2 Buttons für das - fast hätte ich auf den falschen geklickt.

1x für Azubis, Bufdis, "junge Erwachsene" (?) und "Stadtarif Tübingen"

1x Schülermonatskarte, JugendticketBW (Schüler)

Wieso jetzt diese Unterscheidung? Der Preis sollte doch der gleiche sein?
Ok, also jetzt aber! Da wird endlich der "Kaufen"-Button sein!

Und abermals nicht - ich lande auf einem Formular, das nach Webdesign der 2000er-Jahre müffelt für einen Antrag im Schüler-Listen-Verfahren?!

Dort soll ich jetzt den Schulort/die Schule auswählen. Wieso das? Soll auf diesem Weg das Alter verifiziert werden, indem eine Rückfrage über die Schule durchgeführt wird? Das ginge auch einfacher!

Jetzt soll ich im 2. Schritt das Schuljahr angeben, in welchem das Ticket gilt?! Wieso nicht einfach "ab Morgen" oder "ab Datum X"? Nun gut, 2023/2024 soll es sein. Die Nummer der bisherigen Monatskarte ebenso - wieso das jetzt? Egal, weiter… 😒

Jetzt soll eine erziehungsberechtigte Person angegeben werden - aber nur 1, keine zwei! Da aber ich nicht mehr weiß, wer von uns beiden Elternteilen damals die Monatskarte beantragt hatte, hoffe ich einfach, dass es nicht für weitere Probleme sorgt, wenn da jetzt möglicherweise jemand anderes drinsteht.

Als nächstes werde ich von dieser Auswahl begrüßt 😕
Äääh, was? Wieso jetzt eine streckenspezifische Verbindung, wenn das Ticket immer und überall gilt?

Ich will kein "Special", was möglicherweise irgendwelche Einschränkungen oder weitere Komplikationen mit sich bringt, ich will einfach nur das "Jugendticket BW"!

Also wähle ich "Angebot nicht in der Liste → JugendticketBW".

…uuuuund auf "Weiter". Moment! Geht nicht?!

"Bitte wählen Sie mindestens eine Monatsfahrkarte aus!"

Aber ich will keine Schülermonatskarte! 😠

Ich füge meine IBAN ein - das Feld leuchtet rot auf: "Feld beinhaltet nicht unterstützte Zeichen"

  1. Das sind Leerzeichen - sowas ist aus Usability-Gründen komplett normal und harmlos in einer IBAN. Die sollte eure Webanwendung bei Übermittlung rausstreichen und fertig!
  2. Wieso sehe ich überall HTML-Entitäten? Ich sagte ja - die Qualität und das Design dieser Webanwendung riechen nach den 2000er Jahren.

Jetzt noch 1x die Beförderungsbedingungen bestätigen, ein Captcha lösen was mit seinen gefühlt auf OCR optimierten Zeichen mehr ein Accessibility-Problem, als einen tatsächlichen SPAM-Schutz darstellt…

Und ich bekomme bestätigt, dass der Antrag an die Schule übermittelt wurde. Wieso? Ich weiß es nach wie vor nicht.

Ich lade mir das erzeugte Bestätigungs-PDF herunter - es hat den Charme eines eingescannten Behördenformulars und die 1. Zeile ist:
"Bitte ausgefüllt im Schulsekretariat abgeben" 🤪

Statt einem im Smartphone von K1 habe ich jetzt einen Passierschein A38 und hoffe einfach mal, dass die Mühlen der föderalen Bürokratie richtig mahlen und irgendwann auf analogem Wege das Ticket in Papierform im Briefkasten landet.

Ich frage mich jetzt aber, warum um alles in der Welt diese Komplexitäten und diese Umstände notwendig sind?

@elijahwilson this looks fantastic and basically solves a problem in practice for which I've come up with similar ideas in the past, but never made it into something tangible like you did!

This wouldn't only allow to provide contact information to online platforms/services, but could also finally provide automatically updating PIM contacts instead of everyone managing their contacts in their own address book over and over again or one could hand out a "handle" to government offices etc.

Not gonna lie, might very soon end up giving a run for its money on domination. Mastodon is definitely more mature, but Calckey is innovating in key areas where Mastodon has definitively stagnated, like full account migrations between server instances, including posts.

I try to pick my battles but here’s a hill I will die on:

Remove all instances of the words “just” and “simply” from your technical documentation. These are marketing terms used to sell a product, promising ease of use.

Someone reading your technical documentation needs help: implying what they’re trying to do is “simple” will only frustrate them. Wrong audience.

@tailsy started becoming aware of this bad habit of mine a few years ago. It takes a lot of effort to get rid of this writing style, but I feel like I'm slowly getting the hang of it and avoid it (hopefully) in most cases.

This is something where a linter, as proposed by @flameeyes might be helpful. Either simply (!😋) keyword based which might produce many false-positives or based on something like which could serve as a foundation to easily (!😆) add functionality like this.

What (if any) systems do people have in place to allow access to your and online accounts in the event of your death or incapacity?
I’m thinking of using Shamir’s Secret Sharing to distribute weighted shares of a key to various people (family, friends, ) to allow a variety of combinations to recover a password to a vault containing all the info about finances and online accounts.
( already in place between myself & Mrs @barsteward)

Do you have any better ideas?
