Hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, I'm a big time film nerd (with a particular love of David Lynch & 20th century horror), an avid reader of a broad range (but 70s 80s horror and sci-fi paperbacks and political history are my jam) and part-time poet when I'm less stable/more inspired, indie rock geek with a strong Americana twist. I'm ace-leaning and a committed friend of the Trans community, genderqueer he/they, mental health awareness advocate with schizoaffective.

So I did end up watching The Crow last night. I sometimes forget how overwrought and earnest 90s art could be, but I loved nearly every minute of it (the visuals, action, and soundtrack mostly) - it was like being transported back to 1994.

@Tim_Eagon I haven't watched that movie in so long, my goth soul feels like I need to revisit it and see how it stacks up my vague like 13 year old memories

Of course the like one time I leave my apartment other than late at night without a hat I run into a neighbor who immediately commented on the fact that I didn't have a hat. He did say I was "looking sharp" though.

In my new project of watching every episode of the original run of Unsolved Mysteries on the Roku Channel, it only took until the 2nd episode until we got a and LARPing referencing Satanic Panic segment. It simply wouldn't be 1988 without it.

@Tim_Eagon Oh yeah it totally did me too, I watched both reruns and first runs tons when I was a kid and I loved it, but it definitely freaked me out sometimes, especially when they'd do supernatural stuff like UFOs or whatever.

Sometimes on a whim I just decide to experience something different in life, and I couldn't decide on anything to watch tonight so I said "You know what I've never given much of a shot? outside of Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z" and got a Crunchyroll free trial. I watched some One Piece that was pretty entertaining and I watched the first episode of Cowboy Bebop which I actually quite enjoyed a lot. Does anybody have some suggestions of other stuff on there to sample?

The didn't really have the best music capabilities, but I'm having a good time appreciating the Aria of Sorrow soundtrack taking it to its limits right now.

When most of my friends were spending their time listening to 00s indie rock, I spent a lot of mine listening to J Mascis and company and I don't regret a second of it

You would think a major sports broadcaster would be embarrassed to have an app which is barely functional in its best moments, but the Fox Sports App whether Roku or Firestick or Samsung (what I'm trying to use currently) has only gotten worse and more buggy with time. I can't imagine how much ad revenue they lose because people just can't even load it if there's any reason to drive traffic.

My dad's dog, quite fittingly named Penny Lane, loves when people sing to her and will wag her tail the whole time. So now that I'm alone with my dad's dogs I belted her out renditions of Sadie by Joanna Newsom and I Would Do Anything for Love by Meat Loaf.

Going back to The West Wing well into adulthood just reveals what a self-satisfied Clinton-era free trade liberal fantasy that show was, what I once found clever is now just as insufferable as Sorkin's shows that followed often.

Watching my BluRay copy of it is really amazing to me just how bad all the pointless CGI animals and shots they added to the Mos Eisley sequence in '97 look. They have aged so far worse than any of the SFX from the original '77 cut, I really don't know why Disney hasn't just offered an official De-Special Editioned version of the film, I think a lot of people would want it.

Will eventually post a collection of minireviews for all 25 albums I listen to for my Classic Album Project, but just wanted to say that Sarah Harmer was somebody I've never even heard of and 10 out of 12 songs on her album entered my master YouTube Music playlist, I will be revisiting it in the future.

I have an appointment with a counselor in training back in my old neighborhood ("Historic" Old Southwest in Roanoke, VA) and I'm dreading having to take the bus there today. I mostly have negative memories about my time living in the area (even if I miss parts of it), but maybe it will be helpful to me.

Ebook readers have spawned a new category of book: enormous anthologies that would be bound in multiple volumes if they were printed on paper, which they will never be. I have enjoyed a few of the affordable Megapack anthologies. Now I am slowly moving through The Weird, a huge 2011 story collection edited by A. & J. VanderMeer. I read it only at night...

I really want to keep chunking away at my very detailed Night Stalker or (several times more) Napoleon audiobooks I'm working on as I try to lull myself to sleep, but the SiriusXM Classic station isn't playing fair and is just stringing together classic after classic. Most recently Follow by Richie Havens.

games are ridiculously hard. Even mid-level bosses (like Frankenstein's Monster and his little companion, Igor, here) are super hard to beat and it takes hours and hours to build muscle memory required for it. I don't think it's worth it, so I am giving up. I like gaming, not torture.

@kotnik I am simply not a good enough gamer to get very far into any Castlevania game I try. So instead, I enjoy what I can: the incredible soundtrack work the series has had from 8 bit well into the 21st century.
