@JulianOliver Very good description of the issue. But as the author already points out: towards the end they come off super entitled.

“The community” should fix this? It makes me wonder how one can run a blog on FOSS news and not understand the basic principles of FOSS collaboration.

An interesting phenomenon nevertheless.

Samma, ich hab jetzt ne halbe Stunde lang gesucht… Gibt es nirgendwo eine Website mit live -Konzentrationen in Deutschland und/oder der Welt?

Wichtig dabei: Live. Momentaufnahmen. Nicht den Tagesdurchschnitt, für den hab ich mehr als genug Websites gefunden. Der interessiert mich aber nicht.

Ich brauch entweder aktuelle Momentaufnahmen oder den Verlauf über den Tag, nicht gröber als ein Wert pro Stunde aufgelöst, weil ich die Schwankungen über den Tagesverlauf sehen will. Tipps? :BoostOK:

"AI" will massively change the connotation and value people see in "Open Source"(1) just like "crypto/web3" did with "decentralization".

(1) Open source is a problematic term that was a bit controversial within certain communities but we are using the mainstream interpretation where open source is always connotated positively

In tech-related discourse "decentralization", "Open Source", "democratization", "federation" have become weird terms. Not because of the specific architectural or technological concept they are describing but as a way to hide the fact that the speaker thinks that "markets" are the cure-all to anything.

Anything is seen as an issue of needing "more competition", "more choice" which - given how many of us have been trained all our lives - might sound like a great idea. But for a lot of things in life competition is wasteful at best and toxic at worst. Competition in healthcare is what drives the race to the bottom of quality of care and working conditions for the workers for example.

Decentralization for example can be very useful to create more technically robust systems (one node going down isn't that big of a deal) but it always comes with costs: Moderation of decentralized systems is really hard and takes so much work. Also: The need to choose a service provider/node is a significant burden on users who might not even have enough knowledge to make an informed decision leaving them with a bad feeling. "Open source AI models" sounds great but for many of them nobody can audit the training data (too big) and can't reproduce the training (too expensive due to them requiring hyperscalers).

The terms I pointed out (and a few similar ones) have become kind of "magic", they imbue a system or structure with positive vibes while making the relevant discourses on power, fairness, etc. invisible or harder to have. So you always have to wonder are these words used in their technical or their magical meaning when someone throws them at you.

(I'm not even gonna get into how "Open Source" was invented as a term to depoliticize the free software movement and turn hobbyists into voluntary laborers for big tech)

@tante I would only like to add that moderation is hard not only for decentralized systems; not even substantially harder when comparing it.
Moderation is always hard, also for centralized alternatives. It only happens mostly behind the scenes, where the amount of work is hidden away from the participants.

To me is about the empowerment of the individual to be informed and in control on the use of data concerning that individual using and .

To others it is about some weird form of data patriotism based on „us versus THEM“. I remember those arguments from the times of „we must create national clouds“.

This typically resulted in a grab for taxpayers money that got distributed with no real results. Let’s not go there again.

@alxlg @jwildeboer Also, I do not get how a copyleft license would prohibit any company from making use of a certain library or tool; for example you can use an AGPLv3 licensed library in your proprietary product similar to how you can use an MIT licensed library, no?

The only difference being that companies are required to share their improvements or extensions being made to the given library or tool.

You’d have to do the same with any other platform, no? Self-hosted Gitea, Codeberg & co. would require you to create an account before you can report issues. Just like GitHub does.

What's something easy you like seeing? Having an email address somewhere high up in the README is something I appreciate.

But whenever I'd go to the extra mile of actually fixing the issue myself, I'd end up registering anyways - solely to create a pull/merge request.

Opened a feature request on at https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/issues/27990 and referenced it also in the issue tracker at https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/issues/1751

TL;DR extend the kanban/project to set labels on issues using the column names of the kanban. When issues progress between columns, update the label automatically. This would immediately boost the functionality of the project feature while being (hopefully) easy to implement.

Für einen Werkvertrag an der UdK wird ein Mensch gesucht, der sich mit , , und auskennt. Ich stehe selbst gerne zur Seite, habe nur gerade keine Ressourcen den jeweiligen Profs selbst zu helfen.

Ist tendenziell eine eher einmalige Sache zur Einrichtung eines Multi-GPU Systems; aber so Projekte laufen ja manchmal dann doch länger.
