> asteroid the size of 16 washing machines
Are we doing science reporting or what? What kind of reporting is this and the unit? Please stick to measuring space objects in meters or kilometers and not this washing machine as a size unit.
@nixCraft Can we expect everybody to know every basic thing in every field btw? Doctors don't mock you (at least publicly) if you ask where you can use your prescription.
@arstechnica I wonder the ubiquitous connectivity thing can be a "hype" that spanned almost two third of the century (counting the internet itself as a part of the hypothetical "hype").
@arstechnica No... Imagine people huddling around in the living room wearing one of these things to watch TV together. Yeah. Not gonna happen. At least I don't think so.
Yeah, that is what happens when you steal content from everyone without giving credit or paying for it. Now, everyone is banning your AI bot from accessing their data. Not to mention, the company overhyped its products and is currently dealing with multiple lawsuits for stealing data for training AI.
@nixCraft It seems like the success of recent techs all hinges on how much they manage to hype themselves up. Not necessarily direcly by themselves, but convincing others to voluntarily amplify the hype. It's a little philosophical bit, but I'm recently reading a book about free will. Maybe this hype phenomena are the prime example of something that "feels" like free will.
@arstechnica I actually don't mind people voluntarily risking their own lives doing unreasonable things. Just don't do harm to others. But what are the odds of not doing harm to others when you're doing unreasonable things on the road?
@nixCraft Maybe a corporate mindset would be, after tapping on a calculator, the latter is still better because the yearly expense is much cheaper (while approximately doing its job).
