I got my chipped front teeth fixed! I feel like a game show host. It was very expensive but worth it.
The problem is I can't use the aspirator to collect ants anymore, I need to use a "pooter" since the dentist said it's probably what was chipping my teeth. :(
... I thought the fluon was ineffective against carpenter ants since I'd still find them on the lid from time to time... so I stopped applying it.
BIG MISTAKE
I think about 30 of them escaped just now. They were very sneaky! They had a little outpost on the lid near where it opens waiting for when I'd remove it next. As soon as one got through-- the peleton unleashed itself dashing for the unknown!
They have no idea what's out there but they are going to find out!
It came off as diabolical! Normally I check the lid before removing it, but without the slippery fluon they were able to hang in the corner in a little "escape posse" right near the edge of the lid.
Maybe they are attracted to "prospecting" trails that indicate the possibility of unexplored territory. I'm going to add a second outworld for them, they just need more space to wander around and cause ant trouble-- if I don't my whole coop will be their "outworld"
The royal cat family could get dressed up in little crowns and capes then the nation could watch with delight as they wriggle out of them in annoyance.
The people need a silent symbolic leader? Why not a cat?
I would be embarrassed if my country had a lavish gold hat ceremony for a guy who isn't even elected or clearly in charge of anything ... except when he is... and you have to pay for the hat.
I tried to go take a peek at the new leaf cutter ant colony at the AMNH but golly geez... the line was SO LONG. I gotta try to go first thing in the AM.
I'm glad it's popular, though. Every museum can be improved with ant colonies!
@futurebird I selfishly hope it's calmed down by the time I make it to New York next. I grew up loving the AMNH so much. If any one thing sparked my biology interest, it was standing under the blue whale. I can't wait to see the ants.
When the right says "we need to do something about mental illness" what they mean is what happened to Jordan Neely.
When they mention that Jordan was suffering from mental illness listen to the tone. Listen to how, like him being homeless it's a justification for ... murder.
I live in the south Bronx. I've seen some very loud, 'erratic,' belligerent even, baseball fans, drunk, peeing on our sidewalks-- why aren't they on the "just kill em for being annoying" list too?
@futurebird
right? & college towns always have some frat boys who are demonstrably much more dangerous than houseless folk. they don't get publicly murdered, with helpers to hold them down... i mean the whole scenario is just so obvious, it's literally sickening.
@futurebird sad reality: humanity isn't a right nor left ideal.. but a political drawer divider which seperate our humanity into 2 tiny boxes. To break free from the divider.. we must stop seeing humanity as a 2 poli party entity. Indigenous genocide, European colonialism is how the West was won. Greed, corruption, is how the West was/is lost.
@futurebird in the immortal words of the Time Hater just before killing a white slave owner in a sketch Comedy Central originally refused to air:
"How about now'ish?"
The Xerces society has "ambassadors" to answer you insect concerns and questions. I don't know if they will be able to help me but it's worth a shot...
Clarance really called his grand nephew an "at risk youth" as this kid got sent to fancy private boarding schools for bad little rich kids-- you know just a typical street kid ... not someone with CONNECTIONS.
I don't know any other black person on earth who would say such a thing. About your own flesh and blood.
And all he had to do was report it and we couldn't even fuss over it.
@futurebird I did a damn eyeroll when I heard that. Such bullshit. His grandnephew was as much at risk as Clarence was. Clarence Thomas likes playing the Oreo for his own benefit.
@futurebird so when a human orders a knife it’s “for practical purposes”, but when cats order one it’s “suspicious” and they say “cats don’t need knives”
The drone attack seems pretty fake. But the best case for it not being fake is how ineffective of a propaganda tool it would be. One would hope Russia’s propagandists would be more savvy. A bully wants everyone to feel sad they got bit back? Really? Consider moral boost either way. Either Russia is hitting herself desperate for sympathy— or a tiny nation pulled off something incredible. Win win for Ukraine.
I don’t really care who was responsible. If Mr Putin dislikes it he can easily LEAVE.
@futurebird If Putin needs a place to rest and relax and possibly 'regroup', I believe there might be a room for him at the Hague...I hear the weather there is lovely this time of year.
@futurebird If we get to the point that this seems like a false flag false flag false flag operation I’m going to have to hand it to Ukraine, or Russia, or Ukraine.
We’ll never ever get a remake of The Wiz that does the originals justice until whoever is in charge of that venture understands that The Wiz is vaudeville it’s a vaudevillian musical review.
