Fairly momentous day for me today. Feeling pensive and quiet as a result.

Today, I intentionally let my nursing registration lapse. That is, I am now no longer a nurse.

It feels bittersweet. I was ready to let it lapse. Iā€™d had enough. Iā€™ve spent the last 7 years (and 3 years prior gaining my degree in nursing) working as an A&E Nurse (ER nurse to you yanks) and of course the last few years really havenā€™t been kind. (1/5)

Been yelled at and hit out at by many loud voices. Been at the very forefront of a worldwide pandemic- staring COVID in the face and saying the words ā€œNot today, fuckerā€ many, many times. Anything to have not made another heart wrenching phone call with bad news again.

As I wonder how to wrap up this rambling monologue, Foo Fightersā€™ ā€œStranger Things Have Happenedā€ has just come up on shuffle- couldnā€™t have said it better myself.

Iā€™ve held peopleā€™s hands and kept them comfortable as they passed. Taken pain away from people in the worst moments of their lives. Helped pull people back from the jaws of death. Been a shoulder to cry on god knows many times. Put many plasters on. Made thousands of rubber glove hats to make poorly children laugh. Berated and scolded many doctors. Also learned a lot from and been proud to work alongside many incredible doctors. Been a voice for the voiceless. (4/5)

Iā€™ve witnessed and been involved in so, so much- on both very extreme ends of the spectrum. From harrowing deaths in the worst possible circumstances, to new life in the most unexpected areas. The frail and elderly, to the few minutes old. The laughter, and the heart wrenching sorrow. (3/5)

A fun #medical story from my past weekā€¦ Iā€™m trying to share the positives.

I had a surgical procedure Monday and had 4 nurses involved during various steps. My 2 surgical nurses knew what POTS was and treated me so well - they gave me extra fluids. :)

My last nurse in recoveryā€¦ her 16 year old daughter has #POTS. What did I do? Of course I talked to her and answered questions and was an advocateā€¦ on my surgical bedā€¦ because thatā€™s what I do. šŸ’œā˜ŗļø

My wife and I woke up to the great news that our son got into the school we wanted. It was the only one we applied to considering itā€™s on our doorstep and we can see from our house!

Itā€™s a primary/middle/secondary combined school so weā€™ll never have to worry about applying to another school again!

Weā€™re very happy! šŸ˜

Iā€™ve started testing out alternatives to as theyā€™re putting their prices up yet again! Ā£20pm for Family plan now. šŸ™„

Iā€™ve started with as I had a 2-month free trial, but the Windows app is trash. It keeps telling me playback has stopped on another device. It wasnā€™t playing on another device in the first place. Also songs just randomly stops playing or starts from the beginning again. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Costco is one of the best places to buy cheap gender neutral clothing. And by that I mean, clothing labeled for ā€˜menā€™ that fit me perfectly and make me feel better in my own skin.
