People can be so kind to moderators when they dislike a moderation decision.

Also, other may want to be wary of this person.

Several years ago I decided to blur out a friend's fingerprint from a photo in their slide deck at a hackercon before posting it to social media. It turns out I'm not paranoid after all... 😜

(and no, as far as I know my friend has not been involved in criminal activities - it just seemed like a sensible choice at the time)

One of the things I keep thinking about in my is the need for an service in universities that handles the logistics of running workshops, symposia, conferences, etc.

From what I can see, this work is done by academics, and while they often do a great job, it's not their core skill set, and it takes away from key research activities.

The service offering I see this service having would be venue booking, AV setup, hybrid conference arrangement, CfP and papers talks and proceeding management, website production, as well as some form of social media and promotional management.

There are platforms - like - that handle parts of this service, but we need an integrated service offering, preferably at the whole of sector level ...

itgrrl,

@KathyReid it seems like an obvious (missed) opportunity for a shared service across an institution 💁‍♀️

This evening I had a drive fail on the NAS RAID where I store my backups, naturally in the middle of a restore to a new laptop. I had a spare drive handy, and managed to hot swap it in while the thing was beeping as if it was in the middle of a cinematic self-destruct countdown.

I feel like a system administration badass.

Does anyone have recommendations for:

A) good executive coach

B) a good executive resume constructor

Thanks - asking for a friend.

itgrrl,

@jerry for B) you might take a look at Ricki Burke - @CyberSecRicki on the bird site or at https://au.linkedin.com/in/cybersecricki

He’s Australian-based but his résumé-optimising skills should translate 🤞

Hi from casa Pancakes, where I stayed at home on Zoom all day and -every single one of my mentee sessions no-showed and no-messaged-.

Sometimes I feel like not only is my kindness taken for granted, but I'm also seen as not even a human with a life.

GODDAMNIT.

Tired at a decent hour. In bed at a decent hour. Asleep at a decent hour.

Still wide awake for 2 hours at 3 am.

I could take the sleep meds, but I have to be up in a couple of hours.

What the Hell is going on with me?

itgrrl,

@grrrr_shark have you tried a weighted blanket? I find it helps me to get back to sleep quickly if I’m awake in the middle of the night

I am a huge humanist and feminist, and have devoted a lot of my life to expanding and advocating for diversity in technology and yet if I ever receive another email with the term “she-curity” in it again it will be way too soon, and I may shrivel into a corncob.

I’ve made a deliberate effort to search out RSS feeds lately to wean myself away from getting all my content from social media feeds. Most sites built on popular platforms still have an RSS feed (even if they don’t realise it or advertise it), so it’s a great way to corral content I’m interested in for consumption. I’m using @NetNewsWire and it works great. 😊

@jerry is there a way to follow a feed of books.infosec.exchange from a bookwyrm.social account? or would I have to create a new account on books.infosec.exchange? 🤔
