I know, so many want the Marvels to be good or popular or whatever, and yeah, maybe there's some sexism going on there too but, real talk, the whole thing MCU thing 100% crapped out when they chose not to recast T'Challa.

Literally the worst movie superhero decision ever; the exact OPPOSITE point of what superhero movies are supposed to be about.

I (and others) absolutely want the twitter world in the Fediverse.

Unironically. IMHO the world "wants" a big universal microblog thing and will scale toward it; I think we either get everyone on a thing like this, or simply continue to get worse pockets of boring and/or garbage.

More to the point, though: The entire point of the fediverses technical DESIGN makes it likely that the billionaires couldn't run the website.

Broadly I strongly disagree with much of Mastodon and I believe "retweets" and reposts are essential to social media/microblogging, whatever

They're an extremely effective form of alternate news media and it would be a shame to lose that.

The vast majority of "reading" snobbery is 100% justified; reading lots of books far outpaces ANYTHING in terms of growing smarter.

US Politics: My time here at Mastodon is making me increasingly grateful and appreciative for Democrats, esp the Black ones, and all the souls who are actually doing shit to try to make things better

and giving me reasons to generally gloss over most people using the word "fascist" to describe US politics -- it's not that the word is entirely inaccurate, but the people who use it seem to not have much useful to contribute to the conversation

funny how things are relative

it was just yesterday that I was clowning the corniness of Drake and Budden. never thought something would so quickly make me side with Drake

but wow -- the absolute gall of many non-black people (eg. that vulture DJ Vlad ) DEMANDING -- not requesting or suggesting -- but DEMANDING that Drake "do /say something" re the horrors in the middle east

More thoughts on content warnings, etc.

The reason why these conversations are turning out so dumb: It's not that we shouldn't consider what is and isn't generally appropriate-

It's that the way its done is overdramatic and screws up the conversation.

People use wildly overblown terms like "anguish" and "trauma" -- either of which, if social media gives you this, you need to stay off of social media.

The thing we're discussing here is etiquette, not "safety."

Right now, it sucks and it's aggresively stupid.

The biggest question on the table here: How much do we believe in the power of the idea and practice of federation.

I'm optmistic and believe it's entirely possible that the best thing happens: Meta doesn't take over, but the opposite, "federation" infects threads and the like and we win this thing.

(again, I'm a fediverse maximalist, I want it to be the new twitter)
