Working on a little experiment, with some of the prints I started from one of this year's challenges.

I've been meaning to start these for ages, but didn't have the energy until now.

Oh, this one is hard to describe. On top of one of my generative art prints, with lots of blobby shapes, I've embroidered chain stitches along the edges of one of the blobby shapes.

@kristinHenry Interesting! You're embroidering onto paper?

I had not realised that there was a gender divide in craft shopping, but think about it:
If it's a "hobby" store, it is full of model airplanes, TTRPG miniatures, and construction sets, intended to appeal to guys.
If it is a "craft" store, it is full of yarn, thread, paint, scrapbooking supplies, and jewellery-making supplies, assumed to appeal to gals.

Finished this just now! This would be the... fourth attempt at this scarf, but I am finally satisfied.

This was done with two types of lacy ribbon "scarf yarn", but rather than treating these as scarf yarn and working on the edges to make ruffles, these were knitted/crocheted as if they were plain Super-Bulky yarn.

The Green/Teal/Navy yarn was one ball of a lost WIP with no label, and there was not enough of it to make a full scarf, so I was trying to figure out how to use it in a nice way.

The blue yarn (4 balls) is Ice Yarns Mambo scarf yarn, knitted in 1x1 rib. The variegated yarn I crocheted down two sides.

After 34 years, my stereo system is on its last legs. I need to replace it.
Can you even GET stereo systems with turntables any more?

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@airwhale Huh. Maybe that listing was secretly "sponsored", who knows?
I know a while back, there was a period where the only people interested in turntables were audio fanatics who scorned CDs (my cousin was one of those). They probably wouldn't blink at a $400 turntable.

Wonder why there are so many duopolies? (Boeing & Airbus, Apple & Microsoft, Telstra & Optus, Coles & Woolworths etc etc)

Why? Because governments all over the world legislate against monopolies.
Thus, the fat cats have to make do with the closest they can get, a duopoly.
Maybe it's time that governments started legislating against duopolies too.

I get very tired of people who romanticise Madness or try to say that it is just a facet of normal human experience. I have bipolar. It is an illness. It is out of the norm. It is very dangerous, with the death by suicide rate estimate at up to 19% - and that’s with all the treatments modern medicine has to offer. We are not geniuses or savants, we are in danger

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@purplepadma Whether mental illness is stigmatised or romanticised, it is a way of Othering the person, to exclude them from normal society.

Illness of any kind does not make one more creative or inspired. It may make one more empathetic, only because it inflicts suffering, and suffering can either enlarge one's heart with empathy, or shrink it with bitterness.

@purplepadma Vincent van Gogh's depression did not make him a more talented artist. No. His depression killed him.

Three good things:

  1. The pharmacy had Trulicity.
  2. The plumber came and fixed my dripping tap (and we both agreed that the weather was beautiful today).
  3. My nephew was dropping by to pick up a game he was borrowing, which motivated me to finish fixing up the bracelet I'd made him for Christmas (it was too small). Bracelet fixed, a nice chat was had, game was borrowed. All good.

Ravelry has a stash tracker and yet today I spent a bunch of time assembling my own stash tracker in Notion. I now have a relational database with tables for Yarn Companies, Yarns, Stash, and Sets (yarns which were meant to go together, like sock sets or shawl kits). I decided not to use Rav for this because I can control a lot better what data I collect and display. But also just because hey I like doing this kind of stuff. @knitting

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@consumablejoy I am with you there! Total control over my databases!

My database doesn't go so far as to include Sets, but I do record Colour + Main-Colour, which does help in figuring out what goes with what. Plus freeform Tags, which record things like the style of yarn, such as Boucle etc. And of course the usual suspects of thickness, materials, ball size, number of balls, source, cost, and what box it's in.

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@consumablejoy Depressing? Depressing is looking at one's bank balance. This is telling you, oh, that silk was $$$ but that alpaca was a real bargain.

Originally I had the vain thought that I would sell stuff that I made, so I had to know the cost. Now I mainly use it to figure out which ones are the cheaper yarns that I can test out ideas with.

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@consumablejoy And as for not being able to figure out what to make with the yarn, why not ask us?

This week I am posting a more conventionally shaped tea bowl! I do love how the glaze turned out on the outside of this piece.

Working my way towards making 50 tea bowls, all for the sake of playing with glazes!

Are there any colours or colour combinations you might like to see on future tea bowls?

Finishing a project - even a small one - always feels good. Although if course now I need a new "fits into every small bag" project.

Ein Projekt - auch ein kleines - zu beenden fühlt sich immer gut an. Aber natürlich brauche ich jetzt ein neues in der Kategorie "passt in jede kleine Tasche".

kerravonsen,
@kerravonsen@mastodon.au avatar

@ina548 @crochet One of my favourite "fits into every small bag" projects is scrubbies/scrubbers. They're two strands at a time, one strand of cotton and one strand of "scrubbie yarn", which is a nylon yarn with fronds/eyelashs along its length. You can make them in any shape you like, and they make great pot-scrubbers.
