On a break from my 5 year world tour.

Recently diagnosed with colon cancer so a lot of my posts now are going to be about that. I’ll CW any super graphic stuff but consider this a CW: cancer for my entire feed.

Currently: 🇺🇸
Previously: 🇯🇵🇰🇷🇹🇼🇳🇿🇳🇱

I love cats. And dogs.

Estoy aprendiendo Español.

Awkwardly searchable.

just registered some new domains

but.computer (so i could do things like emily.but.computer for a personal website maybe)

say.computer (so I could have whatever.you.say.computer)

actually.gay (so I could have im.actually.gay or similar)

and a few others not worth mentioning

@est you’re gonna have the best vhosts when irc comes back

kitchen,
@kitchen@simian.rodeo avatar

@est we always called funny rdns “vhosts" on efnet.

Because efnet didn't have proper hostname masking or spoofing unless you were a server op (or had a shell on their machine) you just had to burn an IP address for your funny rdns, and people used a bnc or ran their egg or a bitchx or something on their shell

remember that time Captain Sisko, as part of Jadzia's zhian'tara, took on Joran's personality? did anybody else find it weirdly hot when Sisko opens his eyes as Joran and says creepily, "Hello...Jadzia"? just me?

@est nah. Jadzia was super hot. She could narrate paint drying and it would be hot

kitchen,

@cliffwade @TicklishHoneyBee I have hot feet. If they are hot, I have an extremely hard time sleeping.

Once I was camping in Sequoia National Park. In February. Our tents were pitched on top of 8 feet of snow. It was 25F outside. My feet weren't quite hanging out of the bottom of my sleeping bag, but the footbox was definitely unzipped.

I regularly point a fan at my feet.

I love comfy socks. I wish I could sleep in them. I would never get to sleep.

KakaoMaps failed me twice on routing me today. Failed twice very badly.

First it wanted to route me about 20km off straight line to a road that literally doesn’t exist. Like there’s a line on the map but if you look at satellite there’s no road and street view shows a very dead end on either end. And there’s no way a road has been built through there in the 2 years since imagery was taken

Then when I got to where I was making final decision to yolo tunnel or go around it sent me up the steepest damn hill in the country which apparently leads to private property and a closed gate.

There was a third way but it was literally 25km and 1000m of climbing to go as far as the 1.5km long tunnel. And I was already 1000m climbing in for the day. And still would have had another 600m after that to bypass second (much longer) tunnel.

kitchen,
@kitchen@simian.rodeo avatar

That all being said the biggest frustration for me in all of this is the tunnels. They’re built for 2 cars. That’s it. And they’re basically all brand new. Bikes? Who cares about bikes. They can go around. Sure it’s 3x longer of a trip. But who cares?!

Anywho unlisted this one because it’s just a rant and I’m both extremely elated and grumpy as hell at the same time but needed to get this off my chest.

Local restaurant had a cat outside. Then i noticed the boxes. And the other 2 cats. Gave them all rubs.

The one on the right was kinda feisty but playful feisty. Belly was a total trap.

Also these cats are huge.

Anyone know a good wheel builder in South Korea or Japan? Asking for a friend.

… that friend is me.

I need a new front wheel. And while I’m at it rebuild my rear whynot.

helenczerski, to cycling

Bonus points for having a whole dedicated “bike park” for cycles next to the car park, with attendants keeping an eye on things.

Minus a couple of points for the racks being fairly useless ground-level hoops that it’s hard to lock a frame to with a D-lock.

Minus ALL the points for saying (after a bike has been stolen from this area) “the security cameras only look at the cars, so we don’t have any footage for the bikes”.

kitchen,
@kitchen@simian.rodeo avatar

@helenczerski @TicklishHoneyBee those ground level racks are what I like to call “wheel busters” because they wil absolutely fuck up your wheels.

I hate them so much.

And they are everywhere in New Zealand.

one thing that's really cool about any airplane is, it uses a really ingenious failsafe—it ALWAYS returns to the surface, even in the event of catastrophic failure. you'll never have to go up into the sky to search for a busted airplane.

also, you can't get lost! the ground is always RIGHT THERE.
