if you feel like merge commits are "ugly" -- why do you feel that way? what's confusing about them? what tasks are harder to do? what questions are harder for you to answer?

(I kind of feel confused about merge commits too and it's hard for me to explain why, I can definitely see that there are advantages to the merge workflow)

@b0rk Big one for me is that if you find yourself needing to rebase the branch with merge commits in it (for instance, when you need to remove a commit from the history which has blown up the size of the repo unnecessarily - accidental binaries or something - or remove private data), there's a chunk more complexity to get through those merge commits.

But, not-technical but philosophical, I just like one history branch after merging. It makes me more comfortable to look at.

A public school is holding a fundraiser for children. -- Coats for kids.

And you are against it, because it "may" help illegals.

Of course, I banned them from the group. I wish I could ban their account altogether, but there is no official policy against being an a**hole.

This is an example of the extreme right. They would be perfectly OK with many children being cold, so long as it meant it may indirectly mess with so much as 1 person they wish to dehumanize.

@shekinahcancook @Linux_Is_Best @marc_w Even then - I am a Christian, and know a lot of fairly conservative Christians - but 'right wing" and 'conservative' in other countries pales in comparison to the terrible works done in the name of Christ as Christian Nationalism in the US.

They do affect conversations, and discourse, and they do affect opinions - but not nearly to the way that faith and nationalism is conflated in the US. There are many Christians who happily vote for left leaning parties for the sake of economic justice)

@eniko @oblomov They stopped feeling like me supporting the devs like the early ones did, and more like just buying a bunch of stuff. It feels more 'soulless' for some reason. It turned into a shop - which is ok, but then the subscription stuff which always feels a bit icky - as opposed to a cool thing that was happening.

There are ~500 more Starlink satellites today than when I gave this talk in July.

4,924 Starlinks in orbit now (56% of the total 8,728 active satellites in orbit).

Just your periodic reminder that one private company owned by one pretty awful dude effectively controls outer space now.
