Hey so is there any USB-C/Thunderbolt HDMI capture card that works for Apple Silicon Macs?

Turns out AVerMedia says in their FAQ they specifically do not support 2K/4K on macOS 🙃

@cheeaun @jsit just my 2 cents, but the sentence thing doesn't really work. when one of the words is in a button and there are inline check boxes (which should definitely be radio buttons) it's too disjointed to flow no matter what.

@gamingonlinux i enjoy remix and mashup culture, so i sort of see it as part of that. people make creative works out of parts others made all the time.

i think that parallel works when it comes to the question of ownership and rights too.

I wouldn't really have expected that creating a directory with 600,000 directories in it would be that big a problem in 2023! This is just files! I thought we'd figured out files.

Something I have gradually learned with Computers is most types of technology really don't improve over time, they improve until they hit an "oh, good enough" point and then they just stop there, and never improve again, even if improvements are possible and someone thinks of them they won't get adopted

@mcc i had a similar "huh" moment when looking at the mozilla llamafile thing, because they have a note on the repo that they're not really compatible with windows because it cannot handle executable files bigger than 4GiB.

my natural reaction to a joke on social media is to continue the bit, but there are a lot of people who react with "this is a bit, let me explain the premise"

it's like they quit improv class after "yes" but before "and"

then there's the even worse kind, the "let me explain why the details you deliberately changed for the bit to work are wrong"

like "well, actually" was an improv technique

i have never been to improv class i don't know if that's how any of this works

@TechConnectify i probably already left this comment under the last microwave video but the inconsistencies between different ovens and insistence on touch-based controls is why i will never buy a microwave oven with controls other than just a timer knob and effect knob. that's already more features than i use most of the time anyway.

@TechConnectify yeah i'm not judging anyone who uses them, but it to me it's just extra stuff that can break...
one "feature" that riles me up every time is when the only way to set the time is to press a button to add 30 seconds. i'm not a fan of the keypad approach either, but i can live with it. just having a single button makes me very annoyed though.

@TechConnectify @robotistry yeah that seems about right, it sort of slotted into the niche here that warming cabinets (?) at worksites used to occupy and it's never left. i've never seen a microwave used for anything other than popcorn and leftovers, and it's honestly never been on my mind to try it when my pots and pans are right there.

i wonder if this is another consequence of the 110/220V thing? the speed advantage of a microwave is much smaller when a regular stove is on three-phase.
