@christianselig How did you accumulate reddit premium? it could be gifted/awarded? I canceled mine when the sh*t went down, and didn't rate any gifted/awarded premiums.

Have you ever been so in your own head that when you start talking about what you've been thinking about, it doesn't make sense to other people, because they haven't been down your mental rabbit hole for hours?

lizziewriter,
@lizziewriter@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr Yes, and all too often I don't make sense to myself either. Sometimes it's productive albeit painful for an idea to hit the air and be revealed as a mess. :-/

Do and not draw from the same sources? We get different results when searching on one versus the other -- if we add a book to one doesn't it become available for the other?
(Would it be preferable to stick to one federated book tracking platform?)

@stux Bribery, er, helpful community networks, also lack of competency can work wonders. Just a few in the US include Boston's Great Molasses Flood, the Laurel Run Dam Failure of Johnstown PA, oh, and can't leave off this contemporary category of Charybdis: the Bayou Corne sinkhole and other drilling disasters.
Thanks for posting; these stories are always fascinating.

hi, just started on and am struggling. Is this a good place to post questions? Like, why do books show up differently there than elsewhere? For example Harl's Empire of the Steppes shows up as Barbarians ... haven't checked ISBNs yet but for Waiting To Be Arrested At Night the number looked the same for a different cover image than my library copy had. thanks.

It has always been my dream to create a page-a-day desk calendar for Low Quality Facts. Because who wouldn't want to start off their day with one of these bad boys? It just seems like a perfect fit. The only problem is that I, a humble fact writer, have no idea how to make a calendar.

Please boost so some publishing company bigwig sees this and helps make the 2025 Low Quality Facts calendar a reality.

Every hourglass contains one edible grain of sand.
Although they are often depicted as teenagers, Romeo and Juliet were 88 years old in Shakespeare's play.
In 1929 it was discovered that ducks only quack when they are sad, which led to the Great Depression.

@lowqualityfacts oh heck ya! When you hit the big time there, please include bonus content on page backs. NonSequitur had that and I miss it on my page a days this year.

Right. There's been a lot of talk about and it's place here on the fediverse of late.
Whether you're blind, deaf or sighted, I'd be curious to not only have you fill out the relevant choice, but feel free to respond to this with more detail if you like.
Do you make use of, benefit from or even find alt-text useful, whether for images or audio?

I don't "benefit from" spicy food either, but I respect it as healthy and enjoyed by others... Alt text is important.

Lately I've been making very good use of my local library. It's just so much fun browsing books and being able to take books with you that you wouldn't necessarily buy. This week's stack includes some vegan cook books, some books about local history and traditions, a comic, historical fiction, a children's book and a historical film.

After a three year break I also started filming videos again, so if you're interested in books, language learning or slow living check out my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS7CBdPwd2m0brUVOJJiKgg

@Readawaytherain @bookstodon libraries rock! tho there's no shortage of books at home, this year I've been gorging on interlibrary loan requests. .As often as possible i also take advantage of reference librarians' ability to get papers I don't want to pay $40+ for. They can't always get them, but more than half the time they can.

What IS it with my country? The same people who turn violent at the thought of drag queen story hour (a harmless activity), shrug off ACTUALLY problematic behaviors, like, say, instigating violence against businesses and homes. Why not work towards something truly beneficial? No, they'd rather instigate very real violence.

    court, to history

in , as legend has it, in 1777, Sybil Ludington (age 16 at the time) rode for 40 miles from her home in Fredricksburg, NY through Putnam County to alert her father, Colonel Henry Ludington, and others along the way that the British invading army had burned down nearby Danbury, Connecticut.
Though historians may question the veracity of the tale (as is our wont), it is still a good story and has its place in popular understandings of the Revolution.
