@ivory Say, I just emailed this as a feature request to your support inbox, but thought I’d put it here too to get it into your backlog.

Any chance in the future for increasing font sizes available? I may have to acknowledge that I’m getting old but I don’t want to bring my reading glasses everywhere with me.

Please and thank you, you’re all very wonderful :)

So, uh, when you’ve lost one of the feeties off of your wrist pad, don’t search for “silicone feet” without any other qualifiers on Amazon unless you want to learn a lot about other people’s inner lives.

I don’t mean to yuck anyone else’s yum, you do you and have fun while doing it, but I was just utterly unprepared and took 2 psychic damage.

DEAL ALERT!!

XCOM 2 is currently -95% off on Steam.

At regular price, it is C$79.99. But today, it is C$3.99.

This is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It is a turn-based strategy game that not only has excellent reviews, many people regarded it as the best strategy game of 2016.

I just bought it!

I was feeling nostalgic for UFO: Aftermath.

Today, though, nostalgia kind of sucks. Actually, it’s excruciating like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I remember UFO as a tactical RPG that’s a hybrid between an turn-based and real-time strategy game. Instead of waiting for a turn or moving as things happen, you move according to a timer. On first experience, it seemed neat.

The problem is, every time I mean to do something, I get interrupted. Usually, it’s from an enemy appearing. This would be fine except, every time a new enemy appears, UFO decides to give me a 360 degree view of the enemy because they apparently want to impress me with their character models.

I guess for 2003, they’re impressive. But here in 2024, it takes me out of the flow of the game. It’s so annoying that if I had a physical copy of UFO: Aftermath, I’d take it out into my backyard and shoot it myself. That’s how frustrating that is.

The other annoyance is that when I’m at the mission screen, I keep being pinged about new missions when I’m on my way to my current one. And apparently, I can’t just accept a mission. No, I have to travel there. And as I’m travelling, I keep getting nagged and nagged again that there’s aliens that have popped up somewhere on Earth.

Back in 2016 – when I first bought it – I used to like this game. It was unique and quirky to me. Today, I think this is one of those games that I’d like to forget.

Thread about how we had “3D printed” houses over a hundred years ago.

Unlike the ones today these actually existed and were very affordable (think $6,000 in today’s money for a complete 1-bedroom house).

Today’s tech industry is a bullshit layer cake.

Is Boston (MWRA-supplied) water more prone to algae blooms?

My humidifier turned bright green this morning. I’m cleaning it with citric acid solution per manufacturer instructions, but if I need to peroxide or C-brute the thing I will.

My knowledge of water quality only goes as far as “#NewHampshire water has brain amoebas, pack in your own,” so I thought I’d ask.

They know how to make demo videos, but they can’t productize for shit.

    lkngrrr,
    @lkngrrr@hachyderm.io avatar

@GhostOnTheHalfShell They literally just want to consume money and make funny little tricks. When they were owned by GOOG they were begged to productize something, anything, and put it on the market.

They are yet another capital dead end, soaking up talent and resources that could be focusing on delivering fully automated gay space communism. Instead they produce finicky, easily thwarted coptech and highly edited videos.

A dead-end tech company job was destroying my mental health. I HAD to bounce to prevent another round of long-term burnout setting in. I could already feel it nipping at the edges of my mind.

Keeping my mental health AND insurance for the household costs roughly as much as the mortgage each year. It's quite a burden.

Still, burnout is far more expensive by comparison.

this morning on the run i got to the top of the hill and was resting, bc i'm out of shape, and off in the distance i see a bird trotting my way

as it gets closer i realize it's a turkey. it had a big red gobbler and its neck was iridescent. It was actually really pretty, so i just watched as it approached
