5 Ways to Check Windows Operating System Uptime

A detailed guide of solutions on how to check a Microsoft Windows operating system's uptime duration since the last boot (power on/restart).

https://www.adamsdesk.com/posts/check-windows-system-uptime/

@adamsdesk I just use a C program that shows uptime on Windows similar to the uptime information on Linux/Unix systems.

lmemsm,
@lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

@adamsdesk I just called it uptime. It's something I wrote. I've been working on writing some simplified versions of common utility programs. I have implementations of nproc and free and some others. Needed them for an AIX system at work. I write most of my programs cross-platform. So, they'll usually work for several operating systems. I did notice some other Open Source implementations of uptime functionality for Windows though.

lmemsm,
@lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

@adamsdesk Still a work in progress. I have several utility programs I'm working on and was thinking of releasing them as a group. I've looked into sharing some of my stuff in the past and there's usually no real interest so I haven't been actively doing so. There are some programs and patches I uploaded a while ago but I haven't been keeping them up-to-date. No one but me seemed interested in them.

lmemsm,
@lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

@adamsdesk I'll work on trying to package some of my stuff. There's also an uptime utility as part of busybox-w32 ( https://frippery.org/busybox/ ). Doesn't work exactly the way my utility does, but it has similar functionality.

Those passing my window on the finishing 200m are still running (at 12.15)
The less fit will come walking later …
We have had some serious rain this morning, to the extent that even the magpies sat under roof on the patio, so those passing are not only tired but also very wet.

Me? I stay inside preparing meatloaf …

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic How to find a decent organizer who can work with someone who is neurodiverse. Also, how to find a decent living community (neighborhood, condo development, etc.) to live in that's inclusive for people who are neurodiverse. Also, any tips for dealing with complicated, long term grief?

@ScottSoCal @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic Emotions tend to explode on you when you try to ignore them or pretend they're not there. I hear sublimation works well, but yet to find a creative interest to occupy my time. Nothing's fun anymore especially without people you care about to share it with.

FUCK the word resilience. If we were all treated like HUMAN BEINGS, no one would have to be so damn resilient.

lmemsm,
@lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

@StillIRise1963 There are some interesting research articles on vantage sensitivity. They discuss how someone who is more resilient is less vantage sensitive. Look at it like a continuum; not everyone is naturally resilient. Plus, those that are resilient or emphasize being resilient are losing out in other areas. They may be less sensitive but there can be good things to be sensitive to, not just bad ones.

    @weirdwriter @devinprater Just wondering why emacs wasn't working on Windows. I thought there were several ports to that platform. I just got nano and calcurse working natively on Windows, but that probably wouldn't be of much use.

    When I was a kid, I used to crank up the bass of my parents' stereo and sit directly against the woofer to feel that pressure. They would always yell at me to turn it down. I've always loved that feeling.

    I know a lot of female software engineers and programmers in the field. Never got the impression they were autistic. Would have been nice to meet some who were. Would love to discuss common interests such as C programming.

    Something to which I've never admitted, and here I am posting it publicly...

    How many of we #ActuallyAutistics have quietly, secretly nursed the dream that we could reach people with some talent? Singing? Playing an instrument? Writing? Use some innate talent or skill to connect in ways we can't seem to manage otherwise?

    lmemsm,
    @lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

    @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic I used to do a lot of fan fiction writing. Wanted to get into writing as a profession. People would say my characters were hard to relate to or unrealistic. That's one reason I never wrote much fiction beyond fan fiction stories. At least with fan fiction, the audience already relates to the characters. I even took a fan fiction story and tried to reuse the plot but switch out the characters for original ones and I was told it didn't work for the beta reader.

    lmemsm,
    @lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

    @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic I did it a lot when I was younger. Fanzines are a good way to get started if you don't want to submit professionally but still want to find out what it's like to work with an editor. Unfortunately, the Internet has eliminated most of the need for fanzines. I found it a lot easier submitting non-fiction material especially if it's a good topic. If you get a few things published, you might feel more confident submitting material.

    lmemsm,
    @lmemsm@fosstodon.org avatar

    @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic It's easy to share works with the world via the Internet. There's no formal submission process and you decide what gets shared, not an editor. A writers support group could also be useful in encouraging you to share your work.

    @smallcircles Thought it might be a good platform to let more people know about the Fediverse. Typical reaction I have when I talk to people about it is that they haven't even heard of it. The idea behind Software Freedom Day is to educate people about what is out there.
