I bought Little Kitty, Big City today and it is delightful. :ablobcatheart:

A bit buggy yet, but it's cute, charming, at times hilarious (I'd like to meet the folks responsible for dialogue), and well worth the dollars. It's even got a discord and the devs seem like they're paying attention!

With coming up, I'm contemplating a Star Wars rewatch. I'm curious what order you consider is the ideal order to be watching them in.

magela,
@magela@mstdn.games avatar

@WTL if you're doing all of them, don't do SE's!

1, 2, Clone Wars, 3, Solo, Rogue One, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

If including series this gets way more complicated! lol :StarWars: :StarWarsEmpire:

Question for the masses:

Do you all get super thirsty, or am I an extra-special snowflake who just doesn't drink enough water in general and who is now feeling the compounding effects of more regularly focused work?

(This is a serious question; I know I don't drink enough water and I'm trying to work on that. The meds seem to be exacerbating this because with the productivity comes long stretches of not getting up to grab a glass of water even though it's RIGHT THERE.)

magela, to Etymology
@magela@mstdn.games avatar

Because I've seen this a lot lately:

It's "rein in," not "reign in" (unless you're saying someone is ruling over a territory or domain, i.e., "she reigns in Spain").

Rein in: comes from the act of pulling on the reins of a horse or other mounted animal. Means to place limits upon, to control.

Similarly, "free rein," not "free reign."

Free rein: implies letting go of control over someone or something. Letting it run free without the pull of the rein.

I never think about the importance of reading because books have always been a normal, routine part of life.

But reading is a big part of the way that I keep myself happy and sane. Most nights I don't sleep without reading at least a chapter. My job involves a lot of reading, yet I still need to wind down with some fantasy or sci-fi even if my eyes are tired.

I only recently realized that that's not the norm for a lot of folks. No judgment, but how do you end your day?

magela,
@magela@mstdn.games avatar

@pwaring I definitely read in bed, and usually for an hour+ unless I'm super tired. 🙂 But that's after my husband and I decompress with an episode of something or a few rounds of a video game. I'd say I'm lucky to be able to do so since I start work later in the morning in my time zone, but I've honestly always read into the night. No wonder I'm not a morning person.

magela,
@magela@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 I use a Paperwhite at night, helps loads with the eye strain. But yeah, reading all day for work/sometimes for fun. I got blue light protection on my glasses for my eye health too.

Just learned that my elderly aunt and uncle have COVID. Her case is pretty bad and she's already pretty frail. Yes, she's vaxxed, and yes, it would be worse if she weren't.

I invite everyone insisting that this is "over"--especially those in power who've decreed that additional boosters aren't necessary and probably won't be covered by most insurance--to have a think about those who are suffering for your selfish desire to make everything "go back to normal" again.

@ajsadauskas@aus.social avatar

Hi, we're a tech startup run by libertarian Silicon Valley tech bros.

We're not a newspaper, we're a content portal.
We're not a taxi service, we're a ride sharing app.
We're not a pay TV service, we're a streaming platform.
We're not a department store, we're an e-commerce marketplace.
We're not a financial services firm, we're crypto.
We're not a space agency, we're a group of visionaries who are totally going to Mars next year.
We're not a copywriting and graphic design agency, we're a large language model generative AI platform.

Oh sure, we compete against those established businesses. We basically provide the same goods and services.

But we're totally not those things. At least from a legal and PR standpoint.

And that means all the laws and regulations that have built up over the decades around those industries don't apply to us.

Things like consumer protections, privacy protections, minimum wage laws, local content requirements, safety regulations, environmental protections... They totally don't apply to us.

Even copyright laws — as long as we're talking about everyone else's intellectual property.

We're going to move fast and break things — and then externalise the costs of the things we break.

We've also raised several billion in VC funding, and we'll sell our products below cost — even give them away for free for a time — until we run our competition out of the market.

Once we have a near monopoly, we'll enshitify the hell out of our service and jack up prices.

You won't believe what you agreed to in our terms of service agreement.

We may also be secretly hoarding your personal information. We know who you are, we know where you work, we know where you live. But you can trust us.

By the time the regulators and the general public catch on to what we're doing, we will have well and truly moved on to our next grift.

By the way, don't forget to check out our latest innovation. It's the Uber of toothpaste!

Ironic by Alanis Morrisette. It's whiny, pitchy, and its lyrics are annoyingly (ironically) non-ironic.

My favorite thing is that she was cast in Dogma as God, where the voice of God would explode a human's head.

Alanis Morrisette as "God" screaming forcefully.

Currently drifting between "I've got so much to do!" and a total lack of focus.

Maybe that's because I had to drive 2 hours this morning to take my niece to a specialist and it threw me off track.

Maybe it's just because having too much to do temporarily short-circuits my brain.

Look, I found a !

@jake4480 Koosh are the BEST. I've decided I should always have a Koosh in my office. I wondered why it was here, then remembered that I brought this in here a couple of weeks ago because I found it while cleaning.

Best part: I was absentmindedly tossing it back and forth on camera during a work thing, but nobody called me out.

magela,
@magela@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 lol true, but I was also talking 😅 I guess it pays to be the lawyer on the call and/or to work for a company where most people have toys or minis on their desks. I've never seen anyone play with anything else on camera, though.

@jake4480 seriously re: the difference. I have cats and they only ever follow me when they want treats (and I adore them and they're super affectionate; don't get me wrong) but I also have a dog in the close family who does, in fact, follow me everywhere if I so much as look at her. It's SO cute.
