Implementing #ActivityPub in the #Go programming language.

Current projects:

  • #GoActivityPub - a library to use ActivityPub in Go.

  • #FedBOX - a generic ActivityPub service supporting the client to server API.

  • #brutalinks - a link aggregator inspired by (old) reddit, hacker news and lobste.rs built on top of FedBOX.

  • #oni - a single user ActivityPub server with minimal fuss.

Last Thursday and Saturday, I posted the first two pieces of a four-part series on Meta in Myanmar on my site:

https://erinkissane.com/meta-in-myanmar-part-i-the-setup

https://erinkissane.com/meta-in-myanmar-part-ii-the-crisis

These two posts stitch together accounts of what was actually happening in Myanmar between 2012 and 2018, both online and off. The third post, set to go up this coming Thursday, deals with what we now know about what was happening inside Meta at the time—inside the machinery of Facebook’s algorithms and inside the company itself.

Book launch day is a bit like waiting in the wings to go on stage for the biggest show of your life and not knowing what's on the other side of the curtain: full house and rapturous applause, or ringing silence...

Too bad Asus still hasn't re-opened the bootloader unlocking.. I cannot recommend it because of that.

I wanted to be able to search and browse the Fediverse Enhancement Proposals (FEPs) so I converted them to an Obsidian vault. As a nice side-benefit, I can now view the graph of FEP dependencies and their color-coded status (green=FINAL, yellow=DRAFT, red=WITHDRAWN).

This week, after 3 years of work, I finished a giant project migrating a long-running publication to @write_as. 🥳

Besides getting this site on the platform, a ton of new features and improvements came out with the whole project -- from supporting team publishing to custom layouts.

I'm really excited to see the site up and flying, but also to be freed up again to focus on Write.as, @writefreely, and the rest.

matt,

The first thing I'm going to do is get the next @writefreely release out (v0.14). It's been almost a year since the last one (!!) and there are a ton of fixes and improvements that have been waiting too long.

Look for that tonight or tomorrow. I want to get a few more fediverse-related features in there before getting this out the door.

MENEWOOD is out in 15 days (!) so I'm starting to gear up: updating my Events page, writing about research into bynames, taking Deep Dives into immersive prose, and more.

I periodically poke my head into Bluesky to see how things are going and it's very weird to see how their discourse is isomorphic to ours but with a different root cause. Often the same kind of arguments, but about a different event.

Sometimes I see points of discussion flow from one to the other with a days delay, presumably through people who are active on both

On the whole, it's Same Shit, Different Network, with a lower character count and worse safety tools (but a few users who I wish I could steal and see their thoughts if they had 5000 characters to play with)

Hey Fediverse! I just released #Multiplex, an app to watch torrents together. It provides an experience similar to Apple's SharePlay and Amazon's Prime Video Watch Party, except for any #torrent instead of a specific streaming service. Thanks to #WebRTC, it doesn't require a server to sync playback, and can use a gateway if a viewer can't use BitTorrent. It's written in #Go for #GNOME; check it out on GitHub (https://github.com/pojntfx/multiplex) or install it from Flathub: https://flathub.org/apps/com.pojtinger.felicitas.Multiplex ^^

You know, I respect the everliving heck out of cleaners. Here I am, psyching myself up for probably a full six hours or more to do one singular icky task, and cleaners are out there doing nothing but, all day every day - for months and years on end? And it's VERY taxing physically. And boring.

Superhuman constitutions, physically and mentally. We should pay cleaners more.
