I do not trust passkeys, because I seem no longer to be the one controlling the access.

Instead google or apple are.

Sure, they ask me for my face or thumb, but my brain is no longer a vital part of the process.

I can understand that companies might prefer that. The medium failure rate will be much better the more employees you have.

But for me as an individual the failure impact seems catastrophic, or at least unclear how to mitigate.

@icing but that's not a Passkey problem but your choice of the Passkey store. You could store the passkey in a different tool that you'd unlock by other means. Or even use a hardware token. Right?

Me and Linux, a neverending love story. In this Episode:

  • Synology has a Volume, I can create files with the same name that differ only in case sensitivity.
  • I can do the same on the raspi.
  • If I mount the Synology folder on the Raspi using NFS, I can LIST files that only differ in case, but I can NOT create them or copy them over.

So what is it this time? How do I mount NFS with case sensitivity? In my tries it does not seem to have that option, and Google, as usual, is useless.

@gernot now you scare me. I've got an NFS mount from my Synology box on my Linux machine and just assumed it would support this. I'll have to verify 😳

@gernot I've mounted the volume as nsf4 version=4.0

I was able to create two files with the same name that only differ in case. So seems to work here.

How do you mount the NFS volume on the Linux box?

Auweh… grosse Traurigkeit. Unsere Teenie (Einser-Schuelerin) hatte am Montag grosse Mathe-Pruefung. Sie hat so viel gelernt und sich erarbeitet, hatte alles verstanden und ein gutes Gefuehl. Und nun… naja, der Mittelweg. Jetzt zweifelt sie an sich und ist voll am Boden. 😢

@gernot ich kann davon erstmal nur abraten! Hab's einmal versucht mit dem Ergebnis das Uber den bestellten Staubsauger nicht transportieren konnte weil sie einen Fahrradkurier geschickt haben. Mediamarkt hat die Bestellung aber als "an den Versender übergeben" markiert und das Geld behalten. Obwohl sie mich angerufen und mir telefonisch bestätigt haben das es schief gegangen ist. Es ist ein reines Desaster aus Zuständigkeitshickhack zwischen Mediamarkt/Uber/Paypal

Huh. Anyone ordered a lately? Did yours also come with an obvious fingerprint smudge on its contact surface?

The packaging is apparently undamaged.

I've contacted Yubico support about whether that's normal or a possible sign of tampering. Let's see what they say.

Oder I'm container build file die PATH Umgebungsvariable um den Pfad erweitern damit es so gefunden wird.

    I keep seeing things like "How to use 'AI' to play D'n'D solo" and I wonder what people believe why others play pen and paper RPGs?

    For me it doesn't make sense: If I play alone I want a highly curated experience which often times means a video game RPG. The value of playing a pen and paper RPG is in it being a social, shared experience.

    @tante @Fischblog I'm afraid there quite a bunch of use cases already that will make human workers obsolete. I'm me concrete example: voice narrators are being replaced by text2speech AI tools. It's much easier and quicker for the film maker to use this tool than to coordinate with a human to just read a text. For mere documentaries and stuff where the voice is not a distinction element that seems to be the way today. Making that handful of voice over workers obsolete. I'm not making this up. This is happening today.

    @Fischblog @tante in this case AI adds human features to the audio. You're almost not able to distinct those voices from human voices. And you can "clone" existing voice from samples. Including dialect, accent etc. I think those are the features added via AI.

    from Musk (a.k.a. Space Karen) is another of his scam businesses. He's inflating the value by thinking out loud what might be possible but they are lightyears away from delivering. The company is ignoring many rules and standards to make progress at all cost. Media is reporting about them as it would be a "normal" company.

    It is not. They are taking much more risk than other companies. The CEO is really a lunatic with a god complex and journalists are doing free advertisement for them. Stop that until they delivered something practical and legal.

    @b0rk panel 2 and 3 looks slightly confusing to me. The resulting squares (left most, coloured squares) seem to be rather different in panel 2. But then panel 3 emphasises that the resulting files are all the same.

    Still appreciate this explanation ! 🙏
