This take is annoying.

But it's also not entirely @gruber's fault because the media doesn't really talk about the Fediverse, and when they do, it's as a synonym for "Mastodon".

How would @gruber know about the massive development efforts to build more user-friendly alternatives to Mastodon?

No one in the media talks about the growth of *key apps, and how they're now the #2 most used Fediverse platform.

That story isn't being told.

There are two very wrong, very dangerous claims being made in my mentions right now. One is that nothing ever happens on gun safety. The other is that Democrats have done nothing on the issue.

There’s even an odd third one claiming Democrats haven’t been bipartisan enough on it. These claims are not only wrong but dangerous to efforts to elect people to office who will bring more change. They’re dangerous to efforts to save more lives. Don’t spread such things if you care about helping. 1/3

I really wish more people would focus on what exists instead of what they want to see.

some of them don't mean it. they just see their yelling as "exasperated" and they think we feel it going with us.

I really think it might be useful to write something longform or something and make a page I can reference.

Lots of good discussion on and going on. These four questions dominate my thinking:

  1. Can the ATProtocol really scale and federate? This is a very open question.

  2. Can BlueSky's ATProtocol moderation work at scale? Or even NOT at scale? Blurry still.

  3. Can the and improve its UX and UI experiences faster than the these first two things occur?

Lastly:

  1. How quickly do robust Fediverse/ATProtocol bridges emerge?

For myself I have had similar concerns. #2 and #4 in particular. This seems like an opportunity for the two organizations to clash and build something altogether better than either would be separately.

Competition breeds excellence, iron sharpens iron, etc. but the meaning is there. When talented people race to outperform each other society wins.

I'm hopeful that the developers will 'figure it out' amongst themselves and get both environments humming together.

As long as they can reach out to us, and us them, I don't think it's useful to worry about the translator we are each using.

Interesting observation about social media “fun”:

Some people think is “fun”. However, I find it anxiety-inducing and stressful. I’m not the only one who thinks so. A few autistic people say the same thing.

seems “fun” to me because I can make it be what I need it to be. For example, it’s nice that I can create antennas devoted to my special interests.

Hopefully that won't persist in meaningful numbers. I'm not accusing you - I'm saying in general we as a society/community/etc. need to stop thinking about these communities in a "Win/lose" mentality.

People are seemingly wanting to cling to a "one solution fits all" mentality. I don't think that is going to happen. Both places can exist and bridge to one another.

2024 is too far away to make a lot of economic predictions, but I will still vote for Democrats because without democracy, it doesn't matter if I have a job or not.

Okay seriously - stop life and go buy it. Smear it anywhere. It has to be made with witchcraft.

I have bad everythings and I effectively bathe in the stuff every few weeks. My hands are my life (as I'm sure you can guess, as I threaten them constantly) and the poor little fingies sometimes have trouble bending. Like... at all. I have to manually get them going.

Then I found arnica. Two of my fingers still need a "warm up" but the others? Not a chance.

Lower back pain? Nope.
Knee? Nope.

I've used a few and that one was ok. If you live in an area that it's legal - CBD is often mixed with arnica to increase the absorption and help with inflammation.

We made our first home made breakfast banh mi!

A banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich that consists of pickled carrots and daikon’s, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño, and various meats in a baguette.

The meat in todays banh mi is spam and egg.

We made the pickled carrots and daikon along with the bread earlier this week.

Delicious!

The world is so dark and somber sometimes. Times are tough, life is kind of painful and it does really look like we're on a path that will lead to a lot.

Today I read a story about a girl remarkably finding a very unique book that had been lost to her.

Rapid City (Rapid City, South Dakota) Library opened up a "Seed Library" that allows 10 packets of a variety of vegetable and herb seeds for growing food and saving seeds after harvest for the next planting season. How cool is that? Save money, maybe teach a skill, help if you're food insecure? Great job Rapid City.

I know there was a lot of bad stuff that happened. I've shared a lot of it and I have read far more. But for now, I want to share some good stuff. I hope you have a great week(end).
