@parismarx
I read the original interview with Mr. Dorsey. What he wanted out of Bluesky was not a new social network, but a new decentralised protocol for social networks — that's an entirely reasonable goal. Bluesky has a protocol, but at present it's primarily a network. It’s understandable that Mr. Dorsey is disappointed.
@wjmaggos
Mr. Gerard mentions in his article the strange omission of ActivityPub from Mr. Dorsey's interview. I can see why he might think ActivityPub doesn't meet all his goals for a protocol, but the fact that it already exists and is growing should be reason to work for improvement, not to start a new initiative.
The first presidential debate will be June 27th; the Republican convention will be in July and the Democratic convention will be in August. That means that if either candidate demonstrates his unfitness in the debate, there's still time for both parties to shake their heads and choose different candidates.
"[W]ith Biden floundering as he and Trump are wildly unpopular among voters — about half of respondents told Pew pollsters that they want /both/ men replaced as the representatives of their parties — a candidate swap may well be Democrats’ best chance at retaining the White House."
To be clear, I don't believe President Biden is too old — it's possible, but I don't have any special insight into the matter — I am expressing a concern that he will lose the election because many voters think he is too old.
For the next few days we'll be on the road to #Canada 🇨🇦, our new home. Bear with me for not replying w/ more than a "like" & for not live-posting the #TrumpTrial.
My current workflow includes using a #windows Virtual Machine for the sole purpose of running #Microsoft Office and #OneDrive , and this clunky solution is still leagues better than actually running Windows on nearly every measure.
The pain the limited time I spend in that wee VM window underscores how bad Windows has gotten over the years.
Bonjour Montréal. This has been an extremely civilized journey so far at speeds frequently reaching 150 km/hr. High speed train travel by Canadian standards. Also they had lots of coffee. Thanks Via!
The sound you hear is the #BCNDP breathing a huge sigh of relief as the two rightwing parties continue fighting.

We've all been having a good laugh about sparkling autocarrot suggesting that people include glue in the cheese on pizza, and that we should all eat rocks.
But at the same time, you can buy mushroom identification books in Amazon that are "written" using sparkling autocarrot.
Actual printed books. On how to tell very similar poisonous and non poisonous mushrooms apart. Something that is really hard for skilled humans in some cases.
@evan It's awful that leaders of extremist parties can find their way into cabinet in Israel.
I know it's a hobbyhorse of mine, but I can't help wondering what Israeli politics would be like with an electoral system that tends to reward the party that wins a plurality of votes with a majority government.
Watching #TheMatrix with my daughter. The 90s were the peak of our civilization. #GenX
edit: I get that the kung-fu bullet time scenes are fun but before they go back in to save Morpheus, I thought we were supposed to care about the other people living their lives (even as cops, not agents).
"What we really ought to learn from history’s grotesqueries isn’t “different strokes for different folks” or “we’re so much better than them.” It’s that we’d better be humble about our own virtue if giants like Macdonald could go so wrong on some issues. [...] So it’s worse than facile to assume if you’d lived back when you’d have supported Aboriginal rights or abolition. You’re not that great."
My questions were meant to make readers think about their own beliefs, not because I really want people on the Fediverse to reveal to me my mistaken opinions — nearly everyone here disagrees with my politics after all.
But I'll tell you what: I'll boost replies telling me (politely) what I'm wrong about, if the post also says what its writer worries he or she might be getting wrong.
I have filed my analysis of ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan’s application for warrants to arrest the prime minister & defence minister of Israel. I focus on the allegation regarding a deliberate starvation policy. Read my take on Friday.
