Good morning to readers, Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.

Today’s issue – in honor of AAPI heritage month – revolves around what it’s like to be an Asian journalist in Ukraine.

... in a weird way, I found it liberating.

I noticed the other day that sword on this statue in Square Philips was rubbed gold.
This made me wonder if there are any other statues in that get rubbed, and if not, what should we be rubbing?!

Today Hamas shot rockets directly into civilian areas of Tel Aviv. They were intercepted, but a few things are important to note:

  1. The timing of these attacks was not random. It's the Jewish holiday of Lag B'Omer. Using a holiday as your day to attack is a provocation.

  2. To those who say Hamas is gone, or poses no threat, shooting rockets into a civilian city should prove otherwise.

  3. To those who say Hamas is toothless or has no resources, shooting rockets into a city should prove otherwise.

  4. To those why say that it's not a problem because Israel is able to defend itself, I ask if shooting a gun at someone is morally okay if they are wearing a bullet proof vest.

  5. To those who say that this post is a justification of any military action in Gaza, it's not. It's about Hamas and its actions and motivations.

RT: Our group from Dalhousie University in Halifax recently lost contact with a buoy that was monitoring seismic activity in the St. Lawrence River. The last position report had it offshore Mont-Joli, being blown south-west towards Rimouski. We think it may have washed up on shore. We are offering a $5000 reward to anyone who finds this instrument and brings it back to UQAR or some other storage site from where we can retrieve it. Graeme.Cairns@dal.ca

We've all been having a good laugh about sparkling autocarrot suggesting that people include glue in the cheese on pizza, and that we should all eat rocks.

But at the same time, you can buy mushroom identification books in Amazon that are "written" using sparkling autocarrot.

Actual printed books. On how to tell very similar poisonous and non poisonous mushrooms apart. Something that is really hard for skilled humans in some cases.

Who has liability when people start dying?

People on the far ends of the political spectrum fantasize about a violent revolution where their side wins and then builds something new and wonderful from the ashes, and I can't think of any belief that is more delusional and dangerous.

This romanticized idea of revolution as good and noble has to be destroyed. Which is easier said than done, given that America's founding myth is all about revolution.

Any who advocate for the violent overthrow of government are unfit for democracy.

Live Nation/Ticketmaster is a monopoly, which is why it can get away with providing awful service, charging exorbitant prices, and tacking on fees as high as 75% of the ticket price.

The DoJ will announce an antitrust lawsuit against the company this week.

This is a big deal.
