I’ve turned into the most German German imaginable. I’m in Freiburg, and in Germany for the first time in a month. And what do I have to do? Go to the Baumarkt!

To buy Schleifpapier für Exzenterschleifer. I don’t know what you even call that in English.

But I know you can’t get it near Ravières and in Dijon it costs twice as much as in Germany.

@Wen The brake discs are no different sides of the wheels. I’m inclined to think of this as staged. Also, I don't think the wheels would stay upright in this theft.

@quixoticgeek xz --version will show. Note that the security issue itself isn't in the xz binary but rhather in a patch that is applied at runtime to openssh via liblzma.

If you use homebrew (on a mac), please run brew update; brew upgrade; immediately. This will downgrade the xz package and the lzma library to remove malicious code that has been introduced in the current versions.

@quixoticgeek That someone would be a joint (in)action of NS and ProRail. They forgot to schedule a rust-removal operation after scheduled maintenance, so today there is unscheduled maintenance, with all consequences for trains through Schiphol.

I work on a Mac with three time machine backup drives—two directly connected, one networked—and keep my live work on Dropbox, and manually rsync a snapshot of my live work to a pair of SSDs (alternating, only one plugged in at a time). Also, retired TM drives get mothballed intact.

Yes, I've lost work from time to time over the past 40 years. How did you guess?
