People are ragging on this but I think it's a great idea. My kids are paralyzed by the vast choice of what's available, and would often prefer to just sit and watch whatever someone else picked, even if it's already half over.

There's a great plugin for Plex that lets you create virtual channels from playlists, but the problem is that it doesn't work if you ALSO use Plex for antenna/DVR purposes.

https://www.theinformation.com/articles/to-keep-viewers-disney-plans-a-new-streaming-concept-old-style-tv-channels

mwyman,
@mwyman@mastodon.social avatar

@rodhilton a curated channel is really an awesome idea, particularly if it includes a wide array of stuff the kids may not have seen. And there’s always the option then to watch something from the beginning if you came in partway and enjoyed it, unlike in cable.

I know a lot of people are like “oh hey, look, we’ve invented cable TV!” But under this system, I get a say in what bloodsucking corporations I pay money to. And that can exclude Comcast and Fox.

🧵NEW THREAD for here. 1/...

Apparently Trump woke up.

Via Orden:

Trump has re-entered the courtroom, per pool, but the video feed hasn't yet been turned on in the overflow room.

mwyman,

@GottaLaff hearing “Mister” and just his name must really get to him. Is the judge going to allow his legal team to refer to him as “President Trump” when speaking before the jury?

mwyman,
@mwyman@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff I wonder at what point during the trial he posts something about a juror or juror candidate and gets slapped hard by the judge. It’s hard to believe he doesn’t at some point, if only obliquely.

@GottaLaff I think the real problem with the Cybertruck accelerator pedal is that it moved the vehicle out of Musk’s brain and into the real world.

Google should PAY people who use it, given the garbage it spews.

@dangillmor so does not paying the charge get me the better old-style results? Because that would be TOTALLY worth not-paying Google for.

@Sheril early on I remember the history channel being basically non-stop WWII documentary shows. Then there was a while when I never saw television. Then I stumbled into the channel at a hotel in the mid-aughts and my thought was “what is all this ‘Ancient Aliens’ and ‘Ghost Hunters’ bullshit?!”

An doesn’t know anything. It doesn’t reason about anything. It doesn’t understand anything.

It doesn’t think; it simulates thinking.

“Why does that matter?” you might ask. “What’s the difference between simulations of thinking and actual thinking?”

And for some applications, you’d be right. Simulations have value.

But here’s the thing: the best flight simulator in the world—or even the best flight simulator that will exist in your lifetime—won’t get you from New York to Barcelona.
