AAA games have become unsustainable. I don't want to wait 20 years for the next Elder Scrolls only for it to eat a massive budget, forcing the developers to monetize it as much as possible.
I hope that these layoffs spark a new gen of game devs who are fed up with MBAs managing game studios and are to return to the roots.

Sadly that path does not work for everyone. Depending on what you’re trying to build, the development comes with significant upfront costs, where you need investments. As governments usually don’t support commercial developments much, all that’s left is #VC. And as with any tool, it can be a great choice, if used correctly.
@marekfort@vsaw@kepano Hopefully, with less VC money in the market, these kinds of businesses can compete again. In the ZIRP era, it was nearly impossible to compete against VC-driven companies, since they easily outspent you, and user expectations were mostly about getting stuff for free.
As callous as Google’s and other big tech layoffs have been by sending you an email saying you’re unemployed, the viral Cloudflare layoff video is proof that it would be even worse optics for companies to do more.
Best to realize we’re all just numbers on a spreadsheet to corporations. Expecting loyalty from them is like expecting a hug from a rock. It’s so impossible as to be nonsensical.

a few big open source projects are starting to include it, but i'm not convinced it's safe for us to do the same with tangara; i worry that attempting to sell an actual physical device that advertises any kind of AAC support could very easily make us a target for the (quite predatory imo) org that handles AAC licensing

YouTube starting to block Ad-blockers is going to be something. I don’t think these companies understand that most of the blocking happens because of all the tracking code, slower websites and poorly implemented positions. I think if it was just a simple image with an ad and a clickable link there wouldn’t be as many people using Ad-blockers.

You can't have streaming and not pay something for the service. Its a fair deal from them. Get Premium or eat the ads.

The Apple Watch seems more popular than ever, why are Watch Apps disappearing?
More and more apps are losing their Watch Apps when they are updated. The new #vw App comes without watch app, and the "DB Next Navigator“ by #deutschebahn is lacking it as well. And these are only two examples.
Apple is making it a lot easier to create Watch Apps. Does anyone care to check if these are now React or Flutter Apps, which can't take advantage of the shared technology?
@below DaftCloud (small brother of the mac app). I made it to stream SoundCloud while I was running in Lockdown.
The app received a ton of bad reviews because the OAuth Login through the Webbrowser is just broken on the Watch. (Captchas for example were not working)
On Reddit there are still some people that complain that its gone.
