Where have you spotted, printed, in the wild? Here is one of my favourites, bus stop information. They have been using it for years now.

Now I remember way I blocked out working on a to for a while. The hunt for workarounds for stuff is exhausting.

@polpo
Out of curiosity, the PicoGUS wouldn't happen to be a good candidate for a half height PCI card, would it? I don't really know too much about the rigors and demands that come with designing a PCI device. I ask because I keep coming across those little low powered micro tower computers that were trendy in the mid 00's and they've always got a standard PCI card slot but only like a 2" clearance or something.

onion,

@root42 @polpo @theLobdegg would a PCI ISA bridge chip work?

onion,

@SinclairSpeccy I think a recycling center here had that terminal (or something very close to it) some years ago, asking price was ridiculous as usual. Cut wires, untested. Sigh.

when you're installing a mouse driver into your DOS installation, do you do the lazy thing and stick MOUSE.EXE/CTMOUSE.EXE into C:\DOS? or do you keep things "clean" by putting it in C:\MOUSE and adjusting the PATH?

onion,

@foone I think I used C:\UTILS\ for stuff like that

onion, to random

Started to go through all my old machines, of course the mac Classic had a leaky battery. Not too bad, yet.
But what is now the best way to clean? IPA?

what kind of a fucking company releases a unix in 1998 that is available only on floppy disks? 22 of them?

onion,

@foone hah, just learned about that OS today. How did I ever miss it, I wonder.

onion, to random

Wouldn't it be fun if someone would remake a or with modern components as people seem to do of just about every toy system these days.
Even the schemas and PAL code is out there, afaik, so should be fairly easy ? Or ?

Sun 2/120 booting SunOS 3.0
This is from 2004 when I got the machine. Cost me 2€, delivered.

This badge on my Sun2/120 is cool, signatures of all the people that assembled, tested and inspected it.
Anyone you might know @aka_pugs ?

onion, to random

you say ? This is gonna be fun. Here are two of my favorites. A Sun2/120 and Sun3/60

When you thought the server reboot would take 10 minutes and 20 minutes has passed and ping -a server_ip still says "Destination Host Unreachable" 😨 Also see ping command example tutorial https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/unix-ping-command-examples/

@nixCraft yeah, when a journaling fs was still a dream for and the mail server is fscking for hours. Good times... 👍

Anyone on or the know of any good space simulation games? I have Universe Sandbox 2 which is pretty neat but I’m looking for other suggestions, as I think it would be helpful for one of my worldbuilding projects.

Although my computer isn’t that powerful, I’m particularly looking for stuff like SpaceEngine (which sadly does not run on my PC)

onion,

@SinclairSpeccy Microsoft Space Simulator

Hey bubble, please hit me with links to your favorite tracker files (MOD/S3M/XM/SID).
Preferably download links and/or online players, but YouTube is OK, too.

onion,

@dec_hl an old friends music disk, a bit different. https://youtu.be/4RU6T81d1dU

OK fans:

What's your favorite / most wanted computer you never owned?

Mine would be a tie between an Amiga A3000T and a Commodore 128 :)

onion,

@feoh more Sun2 and Sun3 hardware. And early Sun4. A Sun1 would be the ultimate but afaik there aren't many of those around. And of course any other early systems.

Sometimes I wonder why to even bother with bug reports when you get absolutely no reaction for days, weeks, months, years.

onion,

@stpaultim sure. But is a business, you would think they would care to not ship buggy stuff.

onion,

@stpaultim and of course Qt folks reacted just a couple of hours after my rant 😀.
