little protip: due to how posts federate there's no guarantee someone will see a link/video preview when they see your post, especially on small servers. this means that you'll probably want to add some kind of relevant description in the post where you're posting the link, like repeating the headline or quoting a relevant excerpt

    @onelson I kinda love it. A great twist - the rules have been torn up, and it's unclear where Ren goes from there. It's one of the many reasons why IX was so disappointing - there was a really cool potential schism between the Resistance, First Order and Ren's Sith whatever. But no. No decision Ren makes in VIII to forge his own destiny means anything.

    Understanding AP and RSS

    I've been trying to figure out what ActivityPub does that RSS doesn't.

    Off the top of my head, it's not the ability to syndicate, RSS already does that. I can follow anyone on any server.

    I think it's the timeline? And the ability to delete posts. Keeping all that in sync is a lot of work, and presumably a lot of traffic?

    Also replies. If I reply to a post when viewing it on another server, the reply should show up under any other view of that post.

    @davew I could be mistaken, but I don't think you see all replies on another server - just ones your instance is aware of (e.g. because someone on yours follows the replyer?)

    @mpesce is there any chance an errant Starlink satellite collides with another and starts a chain-reaction of low-orbit collisions, creating an Earth-encasing field of deadly fast projectiles that sets the course of space exploration back decades, prevents any new satellites from launching, and traps us here on Earth for the foreseeable future?
