@jerry @Viss @pivot I think it’s either to appease regulators, or it’s a longer-term play to counter Bluesky’s effort to define the future of twitter-like things. Meta has to be jealous at the buzz twitter has always enjoyed.

Either way it doesn’t raise my blood pressure much, I’m just not interested in helping them.

@compilation_error I have been on and off with thunderbird. I have no issues using it on Linux, for some reason the macos version didn’t sit with me - but I haven’t tried it on Mac since the 115 refresh 🤔

@drwhax you can side-load on a Kobo (which are awesome in general), and there are websites devoted to hacking it

But then if you just want something that's very easy to develop for, Jason Snell does some great e-reader reviews and here is the first one which pops to mind for your use-case since it's just an e-ink android phone without the phone

@StephanieMoore I’ve been hopeful for third (fourth? Fifth?) party candidates for three decades now.

I don’t think they ever arrive without a full-scale revolution - or - the backing of multiple billionaires (since it would take that kind of ad campaign to make it happen).

Quite certain the only way I see multi-party government in my lifetime is by moving to Europe.

Enough of this “Biden is bad too” bullshit.

Women, minorities, gays, trans, PEOPLE are just being hunted for sport at this point.

My iPhone has a weird bug where it's not possible to re-arrange the icons on the home screen and dock by dragging them... but I figured out how to do that on my Mac instead using Apple Configurator https://til.simonwillison.net/macos/edit-ios-home-screen

so ive had the 'free' dropbox tier since they came around. pretty much all i use dropbox for is my gigantic gif folder. I've been searching for a pretty complex, long gif that i made several years ago and I simply cant find it. its 'just gone'.

I also noticed that for some reason quicklook stopped animating gifs in that folder. I've spent days trying to figure out whats wrong with quicklook.

turns out there was nothing wrong with quicklook - there is fuckery at play.

@milosz I use self-hosted sync solutions for most everything, but I ended up making an exception for #obsidian.

It’s excellent on all platforms (I use it on mobile a lot) and it was an ongoing way to support development.

has anyone made a read-only FUSE filesystem for a git repository where every commit is a folder and the folder contains all the files in that commit?

the idea is that you could just run cd COMMIT_ID and poke around instead of checking out the commit

and maybe the branches could be symbolic links to the commit folders?
