Connecticut Yankee now living in East Passyunk (with a long detour through Jersey). #Engineer with a consumer goods co., play a bit of #guitar, cat dad. Foodie and love to cook!
will most likelyshitpost about the Phillies during baseball season.
#nowplaying Paul Simon “Graceland”. From my parents collection. I remember my dad putting this on for dinner and my mom complaining that this was not dinner music! 😂
When I was in high school the marching band also did a version of this during football games.
Another from the parental stash. I’m very familiar with “Feels So Good,” which was played a lot when I grew up. This one I don’t really remember, but I’m digging the Latin jazz vibes.
@vinylrecords and now on side 3. Second to last track is “Bellavia”. I remember learning trombone in summer band sometime in the 80s, and this is one of the pieces we learned. Nostalgia!
#nowplaying Jean Pierre Rampal and Claude Bolling “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano”. From my parents’ collection. I learned of this record from a girl I had a crush on in high school, and only later discovered it in my parents records.
What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?
A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.
Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.
How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?
@ajsadauskas@fuck_cars I live in Philadelphia, so all those are within a 15 minute walk from me except the university, mall, movie theater, and sports arena. But these are all accessible by transit, whether bus or subway.
On the short distance, the nearest bar to me is 40 ft (12m) away!
I couldn't have done this without the detailed advice from Meljoann at https://meljoann.com/posts/faircamp/
Last time I had a website of my own, GeoCities was a thing. Hope you enjoy and I'd love comments.
#Doonesbury kills it: #Trump and projection. & what have I been saying for years? Say it with me: Everything out of his mouth is a lie and/or projection/confession.
@weirdwriter This! I’m a mechanical engineer, which means I can run CAD backwards and forwards, but I don’t code as part of my daily life. I’m getting ready to host my first Faircamp site, and this is exactly my experience. Luckily for me I had to admin the Unix boxes that CAD was installed on back in the late 90s, so I’m not unfamiliar with the command line, but I’m certainly not fluent. And many other creatives have no experience with this at all!
Tonight’s #vinyl spin. Hit Parade International record of Dionne Warwick live. Italian pressing. Sound is reminiscent of a TV special to me, complete with jazz band. I have no idea who or why the woman in the sheer top is on the cover.
Forgot to post this earlier but my jury service is over without my # being called. Missed a whole week of class which sucks but it was a nice break. Need to catch up though.
@SoupGod228@acm_redfox Maybe Hunterdon County is different, but last time I was notified of jury duty I just had to call a number after 5pm to see if I needed to report the next day.
@vinylrecords Sunday #vinyl spin. Mike Rutherford “Smallcreep’s Day. Of the two Rutherford solo records, this one is by far the better of the two. Has a sound between And Then There Were Three and some of Anthony Phillips solo records. Out of all of Rutherford’s non-Genesis material I think this is only bested by the first two Mechanics albums.
Saturday #vinyl. Sting “The Dream of the Blue Turtles.” I just picked up a copy today. I had one back in high school that had a skip in the first track. Amazing I can remember where it was all these years later. “Children’s Crusade” is especially appropriate for today.
@skyfaller@stumblewyk@SaveStandard I’m with you in this! I know our corporate overlords would hate it, but it’d be great if we had flexibility in working schedules to follow the solar patterns. Down with clock tyranny!
