I looked into downloading the app that poisons AI models, but I stopped short when I read their instructions that it works better when used in tandem with that I would create that doesn’t describe the image accurately. Is anybody talking about issues with Nightshade for captions and alt text?

sfphotogirl,

@TomaszSusul This same team developed Glaze, which obscures images. Could that be it?

I want to talk about food!

sfphotogirl,

@DemocracySpot I just ordered honeynut squash, a new type I’ve never tried.

sfphotogirl,

@DemocracySpot I’ll try roasting small chunks of it, to start. Supposedly the skin is thinner and edible vs butternut.

Looking for advice from Mastodon: I got this sweet tiny juniper bonsai as a gift with no care info. I’m in Northern California, where we have almost no frost but lots of winter rain. Is it okay outdoors this small with chilly nights? Will it tolerate rain? It has drainage holes. How wet should soil be? How much sun? How to prune?

After a hiatus of four years, I finally have the kitchen setup and ingredients to make my grandpa’s 1950s croissant recipe. They aren’t 100% traditional but are so good. I used to make a quadruple recipe for lots of people but kept it to a double recipe this year.

sfphotogirl,

@DemocracySpot Thank you? Do you mean with egg wash? If so, I didn’t use egg wash. I always underbake them slightly and freeze them, so they can be reheated later.

sfphotogirl,

@TomaszSusul His recipe calls for room temperature butter, though this year I used cold butter. Unsurprisingly it worked better. The shaping is also different. To make more pieces, he cut into smaller equilateral triangles, instead of long triangles that you can roll more times. I also used American style butter, which has a higher water content. It’s more brittle. Next time I’m trying European style butter!

There’s one guy on here that uses an auto-liking bot for everything in the photography hashtag. He doesn’t boost anybody, doesn’t have conversations. I finally blocked him.

Been meaning to say, if anyone has a pet that they are desperate to see in a Santa hat but either 1. thinks it would be an indignity to make them wear one or 2. would like to avoid their pet taking appropriate revenge for the indignity, do share a photo with me & I'll happily do a virtual version if I can!

I realise in the days of AI and photo filters you don't need a photoshopper anymore, but just in case anyone wants an artisnal version 🎅 🐱 🐶

@eclectech How about my partner’s leopard gecko, if you don’t mind reptiles🦎

sfphotogirl,

@eclectech Thank you! That’s adorable. 😍

I unexpectedly found a beautiful dawn redwood tree growing randomly in a small Alameda city park. Dawn redwoods are very rare and special trees, at least here in the eastern Bay Area. It’s very odd but delightful to see a conifer that changes color and drops needles in autumn.

A dawn redwood with orange-golden needles stands near a ginkgo tree with bright yellow leaves in a city park.
Looking up into the branches of a very tall dawn redwood tree.

I almost missed that yesterday was my ! I’m so glad I found this community of artists of all types, community-engaged thinkers, and lots of magnificent weirdos. I’m managing to stay informed without triggering anxiety, which allows me to be more present for people and causes I care about. I’m finding joy in creating again, too!

I keep reading about the bro VC culture springing from Stanford, which reminded me of someone I knew years ago who studied there and founded a startup. His focus was medical tech that aimed to prolong lives. When told him that my grandparents always talked about living too long (in their 90s with mobility and other health problems that wore them down), he didn’t want to hear it. Quality of life would be somebody else’s problem. The entire culture requires wearing blinders.
