Catching up with Doctor Who and just watched 73 Yards. I really liked that. But it looks like a lot of people have a real problem with fairy tale logic. For me, it was kind of like something Mignola would write for Hellboy. Not every detail needs explaining. Sometimes it’s better to leave mystery, especially in such a horror-themed episode.

shaythompson,
@shaythompson@mastodon.social avatar

@craiggrannell I don't mind fairy tale logic, even in Doctor Who, as long as it feels earned and those are the stakes of the episode. RTD seems to just like to go for that sort of thing without proper setup though.

@craiggrannell Or the pea soup low contrast screen of the original Game Boy DMG 001.

I adored that thing, but in retrospect, it's amazing I could read all of that text in Pokemon at all.

Dunno if some dipshit will call me posting this FUD again, a mere week after the last time I said it. But once again: if you build your business on top of anything offered by Google in virtually any way, you are in "fool me seventeen times" territory here. No company has indicated its disdain for the developer ecosystem to the degree Google systematically does.

Everything that doesn't pull the revenue of Ads is eventually killed, and nothing pulls the revenue of Ads.

[...] Samsung has agreed to give up on the "Health Platform API" and is a launch partner for Health Connect."

This was such a weird film. I remember watching it and felt like it was trolling me, given that it was like someone had left in all the set-ups and edited out half the punchlines.

@craiggrannell @TheSpaceshipper I kinda love it for that in a weird way, it's like the movie is as much of a mess as its characters and I find it all endearing.

New favorite hard seltzer from the outspoken, progressive brewery Minocqua Brewing. I also bought a shirt that says, “drink progressively” and I might be back for the sweatshirt that says, “drink beer, don’t be racist.” https://www.minocquabrewingcompany.com

@carnage4life When I read the article, it kinda sounds like they're using the layoffs as an excuse to explain why they didn't get enough done to shareholders. He also says it was still the right thing to do.

Scum CEO's are using layoffs as shields in dozens of ways now.

As a person who did not watch it, asking honestly, was “Game of Thrones” a good show, or a shared experience? No one seems to talk about it now, or want to rewatch it. Is it fair to put it in the “Lost” bin and not bother or should I consider it?

shaythompson,
@shaythompson@mastodon.social avatar

@agiletortoise As an alternative point, I liked the books. The first three worked as a fairly good set.

The unfinished state of the series is a hard sell though. And there's lots of good fantasy on shelves these days.

Political campaigns. They’re relentless. You donate one time and every list in the world gets your number and they bug the ever loving crap out of you for donations multiple times a day.

Friends is the show I turn to when I’m in the darkest pits of despair. And Chandler, with his jokes, and then his beautiful love story with Monica, always makes me smile.

I’m freaking devastated. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-10-28/freinds-star-matthew-perry-dead-at-56

Ugh. MGS2 was so good at 60fps.

The original MGS3 didn't run at 60 (it struggled to hit 30 most of the time), but the fact that it DID hit that on the Xbox 360 is a regression for sure.

Reminds me of that awful God of War port for Vita where they ran at like 25 fps.

    I used to use more third party apps but since subscriptions became so common I dropped a lot of them. These days I’ll use some open source thing or the first party equivalent, knowing full well that it’s an inferior user experience top to bottom.

    I just can’t enjoy the benefits of a well polished and maintained third party app with the subscription cost hanging over me like the sword of damacles, my workflow cut off at any time

    I feel a weird sort of personal growth when looking at a “someone is wrong on the internet” moment and choosing to just let them do their thing. I used to get so angry about this nonsense! These days, I just make a few jokes and let it fuel the work.
