@MLE_online @smellsofbikes Whoa, yes. That van… Are there still the people there who make the mobile ham rigs out of external frame backpacks? I always thought the idea was pretty cool but sort of undone by the Vietnam-era solider cosplay attached to the idea.

@ai6yr This is awesome! I've been ciphering on starting a related project, a discone antenna shade structure, for this fall... once it cools off here in Southern California. I love the portability of your concept! My drawings have been more "picnic table shade structure" sized.

Cool article on the origins of "x" in math.

"One theory of the genesis of x as the unknown in modern algebra points to these Islamic roots. The theory contends that the Arabic word used for the quantity being sought was al-shayun, meaning 'something,' which was shortened to the symbol for its first “sh” sound. When Spanish scholars translated the Arabic mathematical treatises, they lacked a letter for the 'sh' sound and instead chose the 'k' sound. They represented this sound by the Greek letter χ, which later became the Latin x."

Chat GPT is great. If you are a teacher with writer’s block you can ask for something like “End of year comment for student who needs to have more confidence in their work and who asks good questions” and it will spit out paragraphs of the most bland, corporate, superlative content-free, schlock you’ve ever seen. This will make you so angry that you’ll remember how to write.

It’s all “actionable” this and “out of the box” that … omg just poke both my eyes out right now.
