It infuriates me whenever a celebrity, who lives a drastically different lifestyle from me and who I have nothing in common with, expresses an opinion that does not align with my own very specific set of values. How could they betray me like that? I thought we were on the same team here.

@lowqualityfacts I've been seeing a lot of "You know, you can disagree with people and still be friends" posts from people I like in my social media lately, and they all seem to belong to one particular demographic. Try replacing "wokeness" with "the idea that people like you should be allowed to live and feel safe" and then see how wacky it is when celebs complain about it. Sorry, I know I have become the mastodon scolder. But it's my turn on the schedule.

A week or so ago, I saw an artistic image (painting?) of a landscape in my timeline that used this paper cut-out effect, and it inspired me to make this. I have always been obsessed with 2D/3D juxtapositions and this one came together relatively easily for me. I used to smoosh together a bunch of parametric equations to get pleasing "random" curves, but lately I find that Noise Texture is all I need. The palette is random pixels from images.

A video of an abstract, computer-generated landscape that is composed of stacked 2d planes that recede to the horizon. The planes have a roiling motion sort of like ocean waves. But the shading is flat. The sky is a glowing psychedelic pattern of orange and black squiggles that are meant to imply a sunset.

@bascule What a relief to see a guy in his demographic get cooler and more empathetic with age. There are a lot of rich, but B-list or not quite as famous as they used to be, celebrities that turn to being grumpy old fascists with fever dreams of how they are victims of cancel culture. No, it's the kids who a wrong! Whenever I click on an interview with a guy of his demographics and stature, I brace myself for disappointment.

Some more recursion using the repeat node in blender 4.0. I'm not totally happy with my current setup. The recursive tree things actually look pretty jank if you look at them closely, but I like how organic they feel in this context. This is basically the idea I was going for when I started, so I'm calling it a win!

An abstract computer generated video. It's a bunch of branching structures that look like dead branches. A flickering, glowing light moves around in random arcs, and the branches are attracted and move towards the light when it gets near them.

Here's another recursion test using the repeat zone node. This one has a little twist.

An abstract computer graphics video loop of recursively nested pyramid shapes. They have recursive rotation as well, so sometimes they align in a coherent pyramid, but other times they form a twisted fractal shape.

4.0's repeat zone node has unlocked recursion for me. I tried it a few times before and always got stuck. This runs in real time if you don't get too crazy with the iteration count.

An abstract computer graphics video loop that is a grid of cubes in recursively smaller sizes. The cubes are also rotated recursively so that at some points they align in a grid, but sometimes they make a complicated fractal shape.

After more listening, I cut the new Dwarves 'Concept Album' full track number (20) in half (sorry, guys, but this one needed it), and messed around order at the end. Here's a solid 10 track album that I dig. The order is whatever (pretty close to perfect), but damn, do I love the shit outta these 10 songs:

@jake4480 I like it a lot! I'm not a huge Dwarves aficionado. I only have one of their records. This album does seem disjointed. Some songs sound like Social D or Supersuckers and some sound like Off! But I'm largely a whole-collection-on-shuffle guy (with the occasional, deliberate full album sesh) so it doesn't bother me that it's like two or three different albums squished together.

@jake4480 Haha, I love danger of chilling to Cocteau Twins and then not knowing if The Cure or Cattle Decapitation will follow. And since it's all my collection, I know it's all (well, mostly) going to be good stuff. But when I'm listening out loud and my husband is in the room, I make liberal use of the skip button, because he's open minded and makes a good effort, but when Portal comes on, he's like "Absolutely not."

@mastodonmigration I had a terrible experience on here just yesterday, but I do think it's kinda funny that in the 100+ comments to a post that is basically "I'm leaving because I find you all annoying", this is the example he cited. The world would probably be slightly better if this person had just thought this instead of typing it, but it's pretty much the most gentle snark I have ever seen on a website. If Bluesky comments are all kinder than this, I am truly impressed.

@mastodonmigration You know, this is just a genuine thought that I had based on his response literally labelling this reply with the term for "proof". I never suggested he hadn't had worse interactions. In fact, I stated that I had a terrible interaction just yesterday. Wait. Are you...are you straw-manning me? I think people just weren't meant to interact like this. I need to log off for a bit, but it's so hard to do.

@mastodonmigration I did stop to exercise, but I can neurotically ruminate through anything. The irony is that popehat's post didn't call out lack of civility. It called out excessive scolding about civility. And then, in front of his asymmetrically large follower count, he scolded the guy for being barely rude. At which point the guy got more toxic and argued back and with other users. I don't care if popehat stays or goes, but I have a feeling that wherever he ends up, there will be drama.

@flowerpot @mastodonmigration With your theory it sort of makes sense that he was fishing for reply guys. After being absent, suddenly returning to declare, "This place that you all have chosen to hang out at sucks." It is actually shocking that the worst reply was "I disagree, but you do you." Not that there aren't terrible replies on here! but he just didn't catch one with his trolling. Fishing pun for FTW!

    How is 5% of votes a "tiny fraction"?!! That's a huge percentage of votes and would sway the outcome in just about any contested election.
